In a matter of weeks, we'll be gathering to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our graduation from Rutgers. This reminder to register comes with all of the details you need to pack your bag, including the particulars you need to know when you return to campus. If you haven’t registered yet, please take a careful look at the invitation you will receive in the mail, or go online at Ralumni.com/oldguard2015. There are more than a dozen great events and activities for you and your family to enjoy this year. You are encouraged to participate in as many as you can, but these four events deserve your particular attention: 78th annual Old Guard Reception and Dinner All-Alumni Parade Alumni Barbecue Our 50th Reunion Reception and Dinner When you complete your registration form, look carefully at the items above and the distinctive class uniform. Orders for class uniforms are due by April 1. Accommodations and Transportation Rooms are available at the Heldrich Hotel if you are staying overnight in New Brunswick. We have a special discounted room block reserved at the Heldrich for $129 per night. Use the code 273664 when you reserve by phone or online at theheldrich.com. Other hotels in the area are listed online at Ralumni.com/oldguard2015. If you are staying in New Brunswick, a complimentary campus bus will be available throughout the weekend from Friday afternoon though Saturday night to all of your activities, the Heldrich Hotel, or the Hyatt in New Brunswick. If you are staying only for the day, buses will also stop at all morning and evening activities on Saturday, so you can catch a Rutgers bus and ride to another area of campus. On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., buses run continuous loops between event locations and hotels, so you may need to wait 15 minutes or so for a bus to return to your location for your ride. Refer to the maps you receive on site for location details. Weekend Registration/Check-in When you arrive on campus, Alumni Weekend headquarters will be in Winants Hall on College Avenue both Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can pick up your registration materials, including your nametag, wristband, and class uniform. Parking will be available in Lot 1 next to Kirkpatrick Chapel for registration on Friday only. Your registration bag will contain your personal itinerary and the Alumni Weekend Activity Guide listing all events, parking locations, and a bus schedule. Registration will also be available at the Old Guard Dinner on Friday night and at our class dinner on Saturday if you are unable to make it to Winants Hall before those events. The Old Guard Dinner will celebrate our 50th reunion year Friday at the College Avenue Student Center. Parking will be available behind the student center and the gym and in the College Avenue Deck, which is accessible only from the George Street entrance. At the Old Guard Dinner we’re sure to be in for a special treat! The event will begin at 4 p.m. with an open bar all night and an hourlong cocktail reception in the lounge. During the cocktail hour, we will also be treated to a special Old Guard slide show that features our class. Then we will enjoy a three-course meal, with music and performances by the Rutgers University Glee Club. Speakers at the event will include Rutgers President Robert Barchi and others. Cheer loudly, stand, and wear your smile as we are introduced at dinner! Each of us will be inducted into the Old Guard, which includes a pinning ceremony, an elegant lapel pin, a beautiful souvenir Old Guard program, and a commemorative coffee mug. At the Old Guard dinner, we will wear our class uniform, which consists of a blue blazer, white shirt, khaki slacks, comfortable shoes, and our class uniform items (only the tie and removable blazer patch; we’ll wear our 1965 baseball hat at the parade on Saturday). Saturday Morning Activities, Parade, and Lunch On Saturday, for alumni staying overnight in New Brunswick, we recommend taking the campus buses, or you can park next to Kirkpatrick Chapel or behind the Zimmerli Art Museum (Parking Lot 1 or 16) on George Street. Then walk over to Kirkpatrick Chapel for the Chapel Service at 8:15 a.m. (with a special element in the service for our class) and a conversation with Rutgers–New Brunswick Chancellor Richard L. Edwards at 9:30 a.m. The parking lots are near the Alumni Barbecue, where we will arrive for lunch at the end of the parade. The continental breakfast and All-Alumni Parade gathering will be at the College Avenue Gym at 9 a.m., and the parade will step off this year at the corner of Senior Street and College Avenue. We will get our parade banner and march toward Old Queens to the Alumni Barbecue. For the parade, we will wear our class uniform, consisting of a blue blazer, white shirt, khaki slacks, comfortable shoes, and our complete class uniform: tie, blazer patch, and our 1965 baseball cap. Our Class of 1965 banner will lead off all of the alumni classes and groups in the parade at 11 a.m. Staff and volunteers will coordinate the parade, including rides for alumni who are unable to walk. The parade will lead directly into the Alumni Barbecue on the Old Queens lawn. Tables marked with our class year will be reserved under tents on the lawn. The parade and barbecue will be warm and festive with music. After lunch, you can socialize with our classmates or participate on your own in some of the many exciting activities offered in conjunction with Rutgers Day. 1965 Class Dinner On Saturday night, we’ll gather at our 50-year class reunion dinner at Neilson Dining Hall on Cook Campus at 6 p.m. to reminisce about our four years on the Banks. Our dress code is jacket attire. We hope that all members of the class will purchase (for $50) the 1965 class uniform (tie, blazer patch, and our commemorative cap) as the classes have done for many years before us, so that 1965 will have a most impressive presence. We have purchased additional class uniform packages in limited quantity, so if you miss the April 1 deadline, you can buy the uniform for $50 at Winants Hall (Alumni Weekend headquarters). If you have questions, feel free to get in touch with me at [email protected]. You can also contact the Rutgers University Alumni Relations office at 848-932-2299 or [email protected]. We look forward to reuniting, reminiscing, and reliving those fond memories of Rutgers! See you there! Carl Woodward .
