That frosty 28th of December Didn't stop our jovial bunch From meeting to share before the New Year For our Festive Sunday Club lunch.

Armed with mulled wine we stepped through the hall, And amid the festive attire, Christmas lights twinkled and our greetings all mingled As we gathered warmth from the fire.

The ladies did such a wonderful job- In the grace Colin toasted dear Walter, With two courses sustained, only pud choice remained But we hadn't reckoned electrics would falter.

A duo of Colin's was tasked with the job Of discovering the fault of the blip, 'It's the tree!' Margaret exclaimed, but it wasn't to blame. For the microwave had caused the trip.

Though there was trifle and lush lemon torte And a wonderful, big apple pie, Christmas pud? Off the menu! But I can't fault the venue And laughter? I giggled with Di!

So as we edge to the season of Lent- 2014, so last year! And long gone! Now all that remains is big thanks to The Bains For inviting us into their home. Sewing Group

Ladies...

If you're at a loose end on a Thursday morn And you wander down Church Lane And you hear the click of needles amid the bird refrain, Don't ignore that 'music' come and see what's going on For hidden in the Kempe Room, there's a happy ladies throng! I took the plunge in March last year and joined this ladies Troupe Where light refreshment is on tap, in this growing Sewing Group. There's giggles from Ann's corner while Glenys makes the tea, Then Sue calls us all to order above the repartee. We each have different talents but for completion we all strive We're a jolly, happy ladies group and socially we thrive. Sometimes we feast on yummy cake as we did on Mary's day; Or go out for a social at a pub, tea room or cafe. It started with a quilt, feted in the magazine, Appliquéd and embroidered, it made a marvellous scene. Now it's had its Facebook moment and been christened by the Tots. Next came concertina caterpillars, hungry for a box (And what joy they brought when they popped out last year on Christmas Day!) We then got high on lavender making pillows and sachets. Then the festive season was upon us and we came winding down- Shoe boxes long forgotten as Nativity hit town. A Shepherd to each family for being one day hosts, But making sandbag poppies was the task I liked the most. Now February's upon us we're sewing fish tails with devotion For children's fabric ponchos they'll wear without Commotion! Though tasks may stretch and challenge us, steadfast we all remain We're not bound up in the maxim of 'Rip it Up and Start again.' And as we share, and laugh and exchange our sewing thrills We're glad we have this sewing group to expand on all our skills. Sharon Forsdyke
