• 10 ½ mile transit extension • 7 original stations • Starts at existing • Serves the Aurora City Center • Serves the Anschutz / Fitzsimons Medical Campus • Provides a transfer to the planned East Corridor at a station near the intersection of Peoria Street and Smith Road

7 Phase I Goals

• Prepare Environmental Evaluation (EE) document • Prepare Preliminary Engineering (PE) 30% level design plans • Prepare the project cost estimate • Complete work within 27 months • Meet the established and current FasTracks budget • Conduct an open public involvement process for stakeholders and the community at large

8 I-225 Southern Section - Nine Mile to City Center Alignment/Station Changes: • Alignment on east side (from median) of I-225 – does not preclude a future 8-lane highway • Iliff Station (park-n-Ride in SE quadrant) • Florida Station (moved from Exposition)

9 I-225 Center Section – City Center to Colfax Alignment/Station Changes: • Added parking at Abilene Station • Proposed 13th Avenue Station (enhancement) with parking • Eliminated long flyover by going under existing 13th underpass, along Tollgate Creek • Elevated Colfax Station with no parking

10 I-225 Northern Section – Colfax to Peoria/Smith Alignment/Station Changes: • Crossing 17th Place at-grade • Crossing Peoria at-grade at 25th Street

11 Current Status

• Phase I – on schedule • Recommended Preferred Alternative alignment and station locations has been developed with stakeholder input – Final segment presented to the Aurora Transportation & Airport Policy Committee (TAPC) on Aug. 13 – Present to RTD P&D Committee on Sept. 2 – Present to public for comments at our 3rd Public Meeting on Sept. 30

• Parking – City of Aurora pursuing additional parking at Opening Day (consultant hired by City to review & provide alternatives) • Proposed 13th Avenue Station as an enhancement • Funding/Schedule

• Prepare Environmental Evaluation (EE) document, 30% level Preliminary Engineering (PE) design plans and prepare cost estimate • Process Categorical Exclusions (Cat. Ex.) for CDOT approval where light rail is in CDOT/FHWA right of way • RTD Board Approval of Draft EE document – Spring 2009 • Hold 4th Public Meeting – Spring 2009 • Complete EE/Cat. Ex./PE – Fall 2009
