This preliminary assessment is an intermediate product that deals with major transboundary rivers discharging from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus into the Black Sea and some of their transboundary tributaries. 2. Based on the countries’ responses to the datasheets 1 and data available from other sources, only a very limited number of watercourses have been dealt with so far as shown in the table below. The other watercourses will be included in the updated version to be submitted to the sixth Ministerial Conference “Environment for Europe” (Belgrade, October 2007). This update will also cover other transboundary rivers discharging into the Black Sea (e.g. Rezvaya, Velaka, Danube, Siret and Delta-Liman) and their major transboundary tributaries. 1 The cut-off date was 1 September 2006. Gagarina, 1, Rostov-on-Don, 344010, Russia Abstract: This article covers the problems of modern urban districts and settlements of the Rostov region with due regard to the organization of their territories. Prospects for the further development of the urban districts and settlements are defined based on the goals of the urban-planning activity. Short-term and mid-term trends of residential construction in the Rostov region are classified in terms of the improvement of town-planning documentation. It is concluded that the territorial planning organization is an integral part of sustainable territorial and urban development of any region. 1 Introduction As a rule, a populated settlement is a point where economic, political and social activities are concentrated. Problems of modern cities can be considered as a specific demographic populated system integrated into the natural environment. Over the last years an economic component in the management of urban districts and settlements development has been playing center stage covering not only environmental issues but also an optimal ratio of the elements of artificial and natural environment required for creation of favorable living conditions for the population. Besides, it is necessary to determine whether it is expedient to supply production with natural resources to the maximum extent. The pending problem is to determine the priority of the resources consumption, evaluate each territory in order to determine what kind of business activities would be the most suitable for it, and choose the one that would meet the characteristics of such area to the most extent. -

The present article is concerned with development trends of the hospitality industry and domestic tourism in rural territories of the Rostov region. This article provides a review of materials related to the research problem; rural districts of the Rostov region are considered from the perspective of the development of the hospitality industry and domestic tourism. In addition, perspective events, which are able to become a basis for the development of domestic tourism in some districts, are defined. 1 Introduction Today, tourism in rural territories is able to become a growth area for the tourist and recreational sector of some districts. In rural areas, a wide range of domestic tourism types, such as agritourism, ecotourism, ethnographic tourism, sport tourism, fishing, food tourism, equine tourism can be implemented. For the tourism sector to operate in a balanced manner, it is necessary to develop the hospitality industry, which includes accommodation means, catering and trade establishments, tourist-information centers, etc. Means of accommodation are a major component of tourism infrastructure, as accommodation is a key service in a tourism product. Due to emerging infrastructure, the development of tourist resources occurs; their attractiveness, availability for tourists and the tourist capacity of the territory are increasing. Thus, hotel services are the basis of the tourist offer, in line with rural tourism. -

In 1999 and 2001–2002, dreissenid mussels were collected at 15 sites in the main river, in connecting reservoirs, and in a major tri- butary, the Manych River. Collections were made near stations where long-term monitoring data on total mineral (sum of principal ions) and calcium content were available. Both dreissenid species were found at all sites, with D. bugensis comprising 4–75% of all dreissenids at individual sites. D. bugensis was rela- tively more abundant than D. polymorpha in the Manych River where total mineral and calcium content was significantly higher than in the Don River, suggesting the two species may have different calcium re- quirements. -

Prevalence of Dirofilaria spp. infections in 795 autochthonous dogs, assessed by the Knott test, was 20.25%. The highest prevalence was found in Novocherkassk (38.3%) and Rostov-on-Don (18.5%), while prevalences were lower in other points of the region. -
