Contributor Limelight: Carl Acheson – Intern/Writer When it comes to SLUG staples, Intern/Writer Carl Acheson is damn near perfect. Whether it’s heavy lifting or meticulously cataloguing digital information, Acheson’s stalwart work ethic has helped keep the gears oiled at SLUG since September of 2012. Acheson enjoys everything he does for SLUG and our sister organization, Craft Lake City, but especially relishes reviewing live music like that of Bonobo. He gets his groove going with producer-oriented music from anyone like Purity Ring to Danny Brown, but isn’t too proud to get down with “bullshit rap” like 2 Chainz every once in a while either—and his favorite band is Interpol! Acheson is a man about town—you may have seen him riding his green fixie, Lucille, in cathartic bliss, solo, or at Urban Outfitters, carrying out his duties as Shipment Receiver. You can catch him at local food proprietors such as Eva and Washington Square, likely enjoying a good read, but don’t hesitate to say hello. He also writes for The Reaches, and holds the writing experience he gets from SLUG in high regard. Hopefully, Acheson knows how highly we think of him, too! 4 SaltLakeUnderGround slugmag.com 5 Dear Dickheads, Arctic Circle (who are locally-based, by the way). • PRESSEMITTEILUNG 22.05.2015 the GET up KIDS Kommen Im
FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH Große Elbstr. 277 a ∙ 22767 Hamburg Tel. (040) 853 88 888 ∙ www.fkpscorpio.com PRESSEMITTEILUNG 22.05.2015 THE GET UP KIDS kommen im August nach Köln THE GET UP KIDS sind wieder da. Jetzt haben THE GET UP KIDS bestätigt, dass 2015 wieder allen gemeinsam gehören soll.

  • Metal Madness: an Interview with Kingsmen
Metal Madness: An Interview with Kingsmen Tanner Guimond Welcome to Metal Madness my fellow metalheads, covering all things metal, metalcore, deathcore and hardcore in the Providence area. I recently had the privilege of talking to Kingsmen, one of Providence’s premier melodic deathcore acts. This five-piece is made up of former members of Fortune Favors the Brave and Scriptures. The band has been around since 2016, and since its inception, Kingsmen have garnered a large fanbase and signed with Extreme Management Group, known for managing such acts as Suffocation and Rings of Saturn. If you’re into crushing breakdowns, searing melodic vocals and overall death-core madness, this is the band for you. What you notice at a Kingsmen show, apart from the raw talent and stage presence, is that for a band that hasn’t been around for a long time, they play like a seasoned band that’s been on the road for years. That comes from the dedication that the band has to their art. I caught up with lead singer Tanner Guimond Sunday night at Fete Musical hall where the band was headlining a show. Erik Nivison (Motif): How did you get together? Tanner Guimond: It all kinda happened four or five years ago. So Dylan Robertson and I were in Fortune Favors the Brave, and Frank, Adam and Tim were in a band called Scriptures. We did a couple of shows together during a weekender run, it was kinda like after going out we realized we had some chemistry. After those bands fell apart Tim (lucier guitar) reached out to me and we brought Dylan in and wrote a few songs.

  • Precious but Not Precious UP-RE-CYCLING
The sounds of ideas forming , Volume 3 Alan Dunn, 22 July 2020 presents precious but not precious UP-RE-CYCLING This is the recycle tip at Clatterbridge. In February 2020, we’re dropping off some stuff when Brigitte shouts “if you get to the plastic section sharpish, someone’s throwing out a pile of records.” I leg it round and within seconds, eyes and brain honed from years in dank backrooms and charity shops, I smell good stuff. I lean inside, grabbing a pile of vinyl and sticking it up my top. There’s compilations with Blondie, Boomtown Rats and Devo and a couple of odd 2001: A Space Odyssey and Close Encounters soundtracks. COVER (VERSIONS) www.alandunn67.co.uk/coverversions.html For those that read the last text, you’ll enjoy the irony in this introduction. This story is about vinyl but not as a precious and passive hands-off medium but about using it to generate and form ideas, abusing it to paginate a digital sketchbook and continuing to be astonished by its magic. We re-enter the story, the story of the sounds of ideas forming, after the COVER (VERSIONS) exhibition in collaboration with Aidan Winterburn that brings together the ideas from July 2018 – December 2019. Staged at Leeds Beckett University, it presents the greatest hits of the first 18 months and some extracts from that first text that Aidan responds to (https://tinyurl.com/y4tza6jq), with me in turn responding back, via some ‘OUR PRICE’ style stickers with quotes/stats. For the exhibition, the mock-up sleeves fabricated by Tom Rodgers look stunning, turning the digital detournements into believable double-sided artefacts.
