Good morning, Maccabi USA. (Read this in the tone of Robin Williams in Good Morning, Vietnam)

As this is my inaugural SportScene message, I appreciate your taking the time to read this publication, and I hope in doing so you feel more connected to the Maccabi USA family. Speaking of this, I want to share with all of you what convinced me to make the exciting transition to lead this incredible organization. Given that I have been privileged to work in the Jewish communal professional space for close to 20 years, it should come as no surprise that I was quite familiar with Maccabi USA’s stellar reputation. What did surprise me during the recruitment process was the consistent message from both long-serving as well as newly- engaged leaders about how Maccabi USA encompasses an attitude of being one big family. Thank you all for welcoming me with such open arms.

While I am settling in nicely, it helps when you are supported by a passionate and experienced leadership team led by President Jeff Bukantz and our terrific group of officers. I am fortunate to be surrounded daily by a dedicated and talented staff.

Please know that it is my intention to work hand in hand with all of you to help raise the funds needed to provide thousands upon thousands more individuals a unique Maccabi USA experience, whether it be at the Pan Am, European, Maccabiah or Maccabi Youth Games in Israel this summer.

I hope many of you will do me a favor and take a moment to respond to any or all of the following by sending an email to me directly at [email protected].

1. Please share a highlight/favorite memory of your experience as part of the Maccabi USA family. 2. An idea or suggestion on how we can improve our organization in general. 3. An idea or suggestion as to how we can improve or enhance the Games experience for our managers, coaches, athletes and guests.

Lastly, if you are interested in learning more about serving on one of our leadership committees – now or in the future – or perhaps would be willing to help develop your local Maccabi USA alumni chapter, please let us know.

I encourage you to reach out to share your thoughts, ideas, and concerns with me in the months and years ahead.

Todah Rabah, David Snyder, Executive Director

Shalom! My name is Daniel Gurevich and I am the new Shaliach (emissary) of Maccabi World Union (MWU) here in Philadelphia. I joined Maccabi USA about three months ago and I am pleased to take this opportunity to tell you a little about my background and my work here at Maccabi USA. Prior to joining Maccabi USA, I taught science and in Israel. As an agronomist and certified teacher, my passion for everything is related to education and nature. In November, I moved to Voorhees, NJ with my wife Limor and my two children, Beeri who is four, and Alex who is nine months old. My first involvement with the Maccabi Movement was with the Maccabi Tzair Youth Movement. Through this I became involved with Maccabi World Union when I served as a manager of the Maccabi Tzair Youth Movement at the 2005 and 2009 Maccabiah Games. At the age of 17, I performed a year of volunteer-civil social service with the Maccabi Movement and then served three years in the infantry unit of the IDF. I have been active with Maccabi organizations for more than half of my life. In general, my role at Maccabi USA is to represent the interests of MWU in North America. I promote cooperation among the various organizations in the United States that have a connection to Judaism and Israel. I am part of a network of Jewish agency emissaries spread all over the United States in communities, organizations in JCC’s, and in synagogues. Wherever there are Jews you will find an emissary of Israel .The shlichim have a common background and help to enable various organizations to promote their missions. In addition, we work together on events and educational programs to strengthen the Jewish identity of members of the community and their sense of belonging to the Jewish nation. Another important component of my work is to tell the story of Israel. My work helps me share personal experiences of my life in Israel and to provide an objective interpretation of the events taking place in the country. This part is especially significant because it allows me to demonstrate the uniqueness and complexity of life in Israel and educate the listener in hopes of wanting to explore the country itself. As a team member of Maccabi USA, I try to contribute to the success of activities and programs that the organization performs. From the International Maccabi Youth Games in 2018 to the European and Pan American Maccabi Games in 2019, I work to promote the continuation of the organization’s programs through the future of young leadership. I am glad to be here with you and proud to represent the State of Israel and the Maccabi Movement in the United States. I believe that with hard work, determination and persistence we will accomplish great things and will continue to build more and more Jewish Pride Through Sports. Toda Rabah!
