A Conservative MP since 1997 with a conservative background growing up a Vicar’s daughter and grammar school education, Mrs May’s sartorial choices have evolved to conform with an understanding of female MP’s as proxy men and to reflect British national dress as defined by tradition. However, within this conservative persona a discordant note is struck by her choice of shoes. Not always neutral, in this article her choice of fabric is examined as a form of ‘everyday resistance’. The semiotic sign which creates image is studied in the article. The main idea is that forming and functioning of fashionspeak is based on linguistic theories. The author proves that fashionspeak holds symbolism having the capacity to express one’s unique style, identity, profession, social status, and gender or group affiliation. The author leads the idea that the connection between the text and fashion should be sought in the decoding of linguistic signs that creates differences between a male and a female fashion. The male fashionspeak is represented by using the words of the semantic field “strength” while the semantic field of female fashionspeak is “beauty”. Hence, men’s image is verbalized by the Nouns “strength”, “power”, “confidence”, “reliability” etc. while women’s image is verbalized by “pretty”, “beautiful”, “attractive”, “awesome”, “lovely”, “gorgeous”, “glamorous”, “sexy”, “chic”, etc. The author emphasizes that DRESS CODE concept does not include only “clothes” but also some external attributes of culture such accessories, perfumes, lifestyle, hairstyles, and so on. The axiological meaning in men’s and women’s DRESS CODE can easily increase an individual’s self- significance by portraying the desirable values in accordance with their lifestyle. Therefore, the author believes that semiotics of clothes can be intentionally created.

Wearing high heels causes a lot of pain and, in the long term, health complications. This project tries to overcome the problem by ultimately making high heels more comfortable. In order to do this, one must first understand the reasons that high heels are uncomfortable, such as arch angle, heel height, and the changes in walking motion. Once there is a true understanding of the factors that contribute to high heel discomfort, the design stage can begin. The design selected for this project was a wedge heel that contained compressive material. This design would improve user comfort in four different criteria. These criteria were arch angle, compression of the shoe, foot rotation, and ground contact surface area of the heel. After the working prototype was created, it was performance tested in these four criteria against a standard stiletto heel and a standard wedge. The results of the prototype showed a great improvement in all of these criteria, resulting in a more comfortable high heel. However, there were a few areas that this prototype and the production process could be improved upon in the future.
