Family Notices Births Alderbury Engagements 1800-1849 Deaths Marriages Birthdays Anniversaries FUNERAL NOTICES 1801 Death - On Tuesday last as Robert Rawlings, an industrious man belonging to the Earldoms, who supported himself by the carriage of fire-wood, &c. from the New Forest, was driving his waggon from thence to Winchester, in coming down Alderbury Shoot, he observed something out of place near the wheels, and unfortunately endeavouring to get it to rights, without stopping the horses, the streak caught his smock frock, and dragged him under the wheels, by which he was so much bruised that he died in about four hours after. Cheltenham Chronicle Thursday 28th January 1813 1815 Death - On the evening of Saturday the 28th ult. about seven o'clock, as Mr W Geterell and his son, a little boy, were returning from Alderbury to Longford Castle, near this city, in passing a narrow bridge across the river, Mr G's foot slipped, when he fell into the river, and was unfortunately drowned; his body had not yet been found. Though humble his walk through life, his generous and contented disposition was an example to those in a more exalted station. He lived respected and died regretted. Lord Bishop of Elphin, now residing at Southampton. Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette Thursday 25 January 1827 Death - On Saturday the 24th ult., died after a long illness, aged 48, Mrs. Lawrence, wife of Mr. John Lawrence, maltster, West Harnham, formerly of Alderbury. Salisbury and Winchester Journal Monday 5 March 1827 1828 On the 1st inst. died, at the Vicarage, Alderbury, in this county, at the advanced age of 85 years, universally respected, Mrs Smith, relict of the Rev Ralph Smith, late Rector of Oaksey, in the county of Wilts. Oxford Journal Saturday 24 May 1828 1829 Death - On Tuesday last, Henry Hinxman, esq, of Ivey Church, Alderbury, at the advanced age of 82 years. He was the oldest member of the corporation of Salisbury, and for many years an alderman and magistrate. When chief Magistrate he filled the office with becoming dignity, leaving behind him the character of an able, upright, and impartial public officer. In the more private walks of life, he was universally esteemed for the warmth of his affections, the ardour and sincerity of his friendship, and the extended benevolence of his heart. He has left a widow, one son, and two daughters, to deplore his loss; the former is a clergyman of distinguished ability in the church, the eldest of his daughters is married to Mr. Rachleigh, late member of the House of Commons; and the other to the Rev. Mr. Duke, of Lake, one of the magistrates of the county. Mr Hinxman was uncle to Edward Hinxman, esq, of Dornford House.
