As Adopted by the Senate 131st General Assembly Regular Session S. R. No. 407 2015-2016 Senator Gardner A R E S O L U T I O N Honoring Orlando Pace on his induction into the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 131st General 1 Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Orlando Pace on being 2 inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, August 6, 2016; and 3 WHEREAS, Orlando Pace is, indeed, deserving of this 4 prestigious distinction, which has been accorded to him for his 5 numerous achievements in professional football. A standout lineman 6 at Sandusky High School and The Ohio State University, he was 7 drafted into the National Football League by the St. Louis Rams 8 with the first pick overall in 1997, playing there for twelve 9 seasons, and he also played one year for the Chicago Bears. During 10 his thirteen-year career, he played in 169 games, as well as two 11 Super Bowls, and he was named to seven Pro Bowls and the 2000s 12 All-Decade team; and 13 WHEREAS, Orlando Pace is a remarkable individual, for he 14 combined talent and competitive spirit with the highest ideals of 15 good sportsmanship to become a truly exceptional athlete. He is 16 certainly deserving of high praise; and 17 WHEREAS, Orlando Pace’s exemplary record of personal and 18 professional success stands as a hallmark worthy of emulation, and 19 he has inspired countless people to excel in numerous areas of 20 endeavor. The respect and admiration he has earned throughout his 21 lifetime are clearly evident, and his accomplishments and 22 leadership are a justifiable source of pride and an outstanding 23 reflection not only on him but also on his family and his 24 hometown; therefore be it 25 RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 131st 26 S. R. No. 407 Page 2 As Adopted by the Senate General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend 27 Orlando Pace on being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame 28 and salute him as a fine citizen; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 30 authenticated copy of this Resolution to Orlando Pace. 31.

Black history month: Trailblazing African-Americans Editor’s note: The following is an excerpt from an article about notable Sandusky-based African- Americans. The article appeared in the Register’s final of four commemorative bicentennial editions, publishing Dec. 14, 2018. February 24, 2021 SANDUSKY — In summer 2018, as part of Sandusky’s yearlong bicentennial celebration, honoring the city’s 200-year anniversary, Sandusky NAACP members recognized more than 70 African-Americans, both dead and alive, for their pioneering spirit at the Sandusky State Theatre. Sandusky Home January 12, 2017 Town News Sandusky High School Alumni Association Orlando Pace: A SHS Home Town Hero Homecoming is always special, but 2016 was a Homecoming to remember as 1994 Sandusky High School graduate and 2016 Football Pro Hall of Fame inductee Orlando Pace came home to a community ready to honor him. Pace and his wife Carla had a full day on Thursday, October 6, as the city and school system came out full force to recognize the man whose achievements have meant so much to the area. As Sandusky’s Ex-Officio Mayor Dennis Murray said: “We honor you not because of your accomplishments but, more importantly, for who you are and what you stand for to all of us in Sandusky: integrity, determination, tenacity, dedication, passion, devotion and unrivaled, unstoppable, indomitable, unequaled and pure grit.” Among the day’s activities were: A ceremony to rename part of Grant Street as Orlando Pace Drive. The renamed section runs from Camp Street to Hayes Avenue and is adjacent to Strobel Field at Cedar Point Stadium, which has a new address, 75 Orlando Pace Drive, honoring Pace’s number as a Blue Streak; Special presentation of a #75 Blue Streaks jersey. Sandusky Home July 19, 2016 Town News Sandusky High School Alumni Association Orlando Pace Named to Football Hall of Fame Orlando Pace (1994) has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Enshrinement Ceremony is Saturday, August 6, at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. Pace was the number 1 overall pick in the 1997 draft. He played college ball for Ohio State and professionally for the St. Louis Rams from 1997 to 2008 and finished his career with the Chicago Bears in the 2009 season. Orlando Pace. A variety of festivities honoring Pace are planned in Sandusky Picture courtesy this fall and the City of Sandusky is considering changing the of Sandusky City name of Grant Street (between Camp Street and Hayes Schools. Avenue) to Orlando Pace Drive. The 27th Annual SHS Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees Renee Johnson-Laws (1982). Johnson-Laws earned six varsity letters, three each in swimming and gymnastics; held five school records during her swimming career at SHS; and was the first female swimmer in the school's history to produce points in a state meet. Ross Oeder (2003) went on to play baseball at Wright State University and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, spending his first season with Batavia in the New York-Penn League and the next season playing Class A ball with Quad City. Keith Pace (1986) Pace earned two varsity awards in football for the Blue Streaks, gained first team Buckeye Conference honors and was named the hitter of the year, most valuable lineman and blocker of the year in 1985.
