The expansion of Islam did multiply the number of cities to the edge of the desert, transforming the nomadic tribes in urban populations. For a good Muslim cannot be a better practice of the religion if not in the city, in the "Friday Mosque" for common prayers. Life in the city is considered a condition of moral perfection and been fixed in one place, giving up the nomadic life. -

Using pellet analysis from two post-breeding roosting sites in southern Albania collected in August 2017, we identifi ed 1539 prey items belonging to approximately 58 prey species, 20 families and 7 orders in 110 pellets from two sites. Invertebrates made up the major part of the diet spectrum (PNI = 99.8 %, PFI = 100 %). Invertebrate prey body size varied between 8 and 62 mm (mean 28.1 mm). Bush-crickets (Tettigoniidae) and locusts (Acrididae) were the most abundant and frequent prey groups (PNI = 33 % resp. 48.6 % and PFI = 97 % resp. 94 %). Within the bush-cricket family we could identify the species of genera Tettigonia, Decticus, Platycleis, Isophya and Metrioptera. The species of genera Calliptamus, Stenobothrus and Locusta belonged among the locust species identifi ed in the food. Birds and mammals were found in pellets only occasionally. The prey composition was rather similar at both studied sites, while locusts (Acrididae) were more abundant at the Jorgucat site and bush-crickets (Tettigonioidea) at the Mollas site in the same time. Prey groups Scarabeidae beetles and other beetles (Coleoptera other) were more abundant and frequent at Mollas than at Jorgucat, and spiders were more frequent at Jorgucat. -

Theme: Space, Place and Dwelling Space, Place and Dwelling is the theme of the Spring School that will be held in Tirana, Albania, for March 2018. Spatiality is an underrated but very fundamental aspect of both religious practice and religious reasoning. According to Tweed (2006), religious practice comes down to basically two forces: crossing and dwelling. Terrestrial crossing refers to physical movement, such as pilgrimage, certain spatial rituals, as well as spiritual travel indicating a movement across time and place. Corporeal crossing refers not only to the religious understanding of life cycles and modes of temporality, yet additionally the embodied limits and constraints in life as well as the concomitant registers of meaning provided by religion to confront them. Cosmic crossing refers to transcendental dynamics of boundaries, and to the religious language which provides meaning to crossing. One could also think of movement that is not religiously inspired, yet may well impact, notions of religion, such as migration and displacement due to religious reasons. -

Accepted: 10 May 2018 “ALWAYS BAYRAM, ALWAYS EASTER”: THE CALL FOR ALBANIAN CIVIC UNITY IN GJERGJ FISHTA’S THE HIGHLAND LUTE Abstract Gjergj Fishta’s verse narrative, Lahuta e Malcis (ca. 1907) is often regarded as the national epic of Albanians. The epic produces a fresh vision of the shared cultural identity of Albanians by telling the story of their struggle for independence blended with elements of regional and local culture which had never before entered into high literary language. The paper argues that Fishta creates a national epic not just by the events he narrates in the poem but also by the language and imagery he uses. The poem’s language puts Albanian modes of expression into high literature, depicts Muslim and Christian Albanian practices in a manner that emphasizes their common ground, and utilizes Albanian folklore such as the mythological creatures called zana and ora, which lie outside both the Christian and Muslim religions, but are closely associated with the land. In emphasizing the Albanian land, language, and culture, Fishta’s epic poem crafts a civic Albanian identity that embraces Albanian religious diversity and transcends sectarian identifications.
