BUILDING HISTORY

1904 In 1904, the Bamberger Electric Railroad Company, a small Utah railroad that hoped to furnish franchise rail service through Ogden Canyon to the Huntsville valley (now Ogden Valley), built the present lodge as the first phase of a major resort hotel.

The rustic lodge nestled along the Ogden River was built by rule of thumb, with no formal architectural plans ever created. The native lumber was cut from the mountains in the Monte Cristo area, 20 miles east of the OACC. Although Bamberger lost its bid for franchise, it continued to operate the lodge as a restaurant for about two years.

1918

J.H. DeVine, an attorney for the Bamberger Company, along with his good friend John Browning, bought the property to use as a summer home for both families. DeVine bought out the Brownings in 1922.

1943

The DeVines sold the property in 1943, due to wartime restrictions and lack of help. The new owners remodeled the building and operated it as a restaurant and a beer tavern under several names like “Canyon Club” and “Tyrolean House.” Over the next 15 years the operation would be opened and closed several times. 1960

The Ogden Chamber of Commerce introduced the property to Thiokol in 1959 and the company bought it in July of 1960. Following remodeling, the conference center began operation on October 1, 1960.

The OACC is now used for technical meetings, personnel training, luncheons, award ceremonies and as of 6 years ago, has seen great success as a wedding, reception and private event venue.

With year round access to the Ogden River, and close proximity to Pineview Reservoir and Ogden Valley, the lodge is a perfect location for corporate retreats.
