Pizzey a Gun Young Python PINES has been waiting patiently for its youngsters to mature in to the next group of stars that will lead them to another era of dominance and that group could well be led by 18 year-old Lachlan Pizzey. Lachlan is the second player nominated for the 2013 Peninsula League Young Gun award. Lachlan has always been keen of the game of football and started his career with South Mornington Junior Football Club at under 10 level, before transferring to Seaford and playing under 13s through to under 15s with the Tigers. He grew quickly and it became apparent very early that Lachlan possessed above average ability and a class as a marking tall player capable of playing a Pines young gun number of positions. Lachlan moved to Pines to play with mates and has since Lachlan Pizzey. been a member of the under 18s and come under notice as a potential senior prospect. Lachlan lists selection as a member of this year’s Peninsula League under 18 side as his career highlight to date and said his main ambition at present was to make his mark with the Pythons. “I really want to play senior football with Pines and also play a key role in the future success of the club,” he said. Pines coach Stephen Ryan has been impressed with the young prospect and said his nomination was well deserved. “Lachlan is a hard working tall player who can play any position. He is a leader who commands respect from team mates and opposition,” he said. “He is a quality individual who is a valuable asset to the club. He’s come a long way in the last couple of years and has a bright future at Pines.”

Taking the lead early and refusing to let go of it. Brilliant new addition to our little team Lauren A starring down in the goals end alongside self appointed team motivator Ness B and little miss never stop moving Kirsten D. Great drive down the court and smart attacking play proved too much for Mornington and our girls came away with the win. Next up our B girls came out firing and maintained majority of the play but silly mistakes allowed Mornington come over the top with a disappointing 2 point loss. Though this was a much better display of netball then early in the season, our “little” goaler Evie really showing what she has to offer and Steph Beckett showing she’s more than just a pretty face with plenty of in your face rejections. Heads up girls, this was just a stumble on our way to smashing finals! Last up was our completely new A grade team, well that’s the way it felt, as centre after centre they with Sara keeping warm on the side having a rest showed their new found attack on the ball and and the girls didn’t disappoint still some sloppy passes teamwork. The Frankston International is a great venue & it’s on the way home after the Mornington games. Phil always puts on terrific food and with great company and drinks at bar prices - what could be better? I hope to see everyone there as thanks to our very loyal and fantastic sponsor. So today it’s Mornington at Mornington and another three hard games are on the cards for our netballers. Good luck to all Eagles teams playing this weekend! Fly Eagles!! Mornington Bulldogs Not a great afternoon for us at Jubilee Park last week. C grade lost opportunities to score with poor passing options in attack. Our defence was overwhelmed by the accuracy and speed of the Stonecat shooters and didn’t have the usual misses to rebound. There’s lots for us to concentrate on at training this week. B grade was more consistent for the four quarters. The girls had to work hard for every ball with Beth and Leah having to do a lot of work in the goal circle to open up the court. A strong display in the third quarter gave us the biggest margin in the game of 6.

Ian (FIZZ) JaCKSOn - Wedderburn Umpire

Ian ‘Fizz’ Jackson played the game hard but tempered his fiery approach when he turned to umpiring. In 1974 he started a 28 year umpiring stint that saw him officiate in 560 games and 20 grand finals. Ian says proudly that he never reported a player in his umpiring career “I’d rather give a 50 metre penalty or talk to them than report them”. WorkSafe is proud to sponsor country football. For the players, the families, friends, even the umpires! That’s why WorkSafe wants to remind everyone in country Victoria how important it is to have a safe workplace. That way all of us can turn up to the footy on the weekend to see our country football legends.
