DEPARTMENT OF The Department of Kannada is one of the major departments in the institution. It conducts various programmes related to Kannada literature and other social issues. During the last five years, it has conducted ‘’JANAPADA ULISI – KALNADIGE JAATA’’ (Save Folklore – Jatha by the students of Optional Kannada)

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ of Govt First Grade college Channapatna organized a procession named ‘’JANAPADA ULISI – KALNADIGE JAATA’’ on 22-08-2015 to create an awareness on the importance of “FOLK REVIVAL”. The event was inaugurated by The Principal Prof. Yami Channiah. The procession was led by Dr. B.T. Nethravathi, Head of the Kannada Department. First, second and final year students of optional kannada participated in the event. Placards, slogans and folksongs made the event meaningful. The procession covered around 8 K.M. from the college to ‘Janapada Loka’, a hub of folklore. Dr. Kuruva Basavaraju presented a talk on the importance of folklore and the need to revive it. Folksongs were well sung by students to mark the importance of jatha.

FIELD VISIT

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha ‘ a cultural wing of the Department of Kannada organized a field visit to Pandavapura Taluk of Mandya to visit library on 13-02-2015. The team was lead by Dr.B.T. Nethravathi, HOD. All PG students of Kannada had actively participated in the field visit and learnt the importance of visiting a library as it is the repository of knowledge.

The students understood that they have to make use of it to excel in their academic journey. In the event, the students took a pledge of reading 10 ten books per year and disseminate the knowledge to others too.

FIELD VISIT

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ of Kannada Department, Govt First Grade College, Channapatna organised a field visit to ‘KUPPALLI’ birth place of the Poet Kuvempu, Theerthahalli Taluk, Shivamogga District on 14-11-2015 under the guidance of Dr.Raveendra faculty of kannada department. All the first and second year PG students were participated in the visit. There they visited the museum, kavishyla,navilkalgudda and Tejaswi vana.

Students came to know about the birth place of Kuvempu and enjoyed the surrounding beauty of nature. Students visited places described in the novels. Thus they could relate to the novel much better. It was a fruitful field visit for sure.

GURUVANDANA PROGRMME

‘Srujana Knnada Sangha’ department of Kannada, Govt First Grade College, Channapatna organized a programme named ‘GURUVANDANA PROGRAMME’ to show their gratitude to teachers on 06-02-2016 .

Dr. B.T. Nethravathi, Head of the Kannada department inaugurated the programme, Dr.

Madhusudanacharya Joshi spoke as chief speaker. All the students of first,second and final year optional kannada students and PG kannada students participated in the programme. Some of the students expressed their gratitude towards teacher.

JANAPADA ULISI – KAALNADIGE JAATA

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ of Kannada Department, Govt First Grade College, Channapatna organized a procession named ‘ JANAPADA ULISI – KAALNADIGE JAATA’ on 09-08- 2016 from the college to Janapada Loka, a hub of Folklore.The procession was lead by Dr.B.T.Nethravathi Head of the Kannada Department. All the faculty members of kannada department were a part of the procession. First,second and final year students of optional kannada participated in the procession too .

Dr.Kurava Basavaragu, curator of Janapada loka, gave a lecture on folklore. Students sung many folk songs and also visited the folk museum. They understood the need to preserve folk culture which is disappearing at a great speed with the onslaught of globalization.

SYMPOSIUM

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ of Kannada Department, Govt First Grade College, Channaptna and in association with ‘Zilla Kannada Sahithya Parishad’ organized a Symposium about ‘KANNADAKKE

SHASTREEYA BHASHA STHANAMANA’on 10-09-2016 in the Edusat room of the college.

Dr. Mayigegowda, the Principal of our college, inaugurated the symposium.Sim.lim.Nagaraju, President of Zilla Kannada Parishad presided over the programme. Dr.B.T. Nethravathi, Head of the Kannada

Department was also the Key note speaker of the symposium.

All the students of optional kannada , the faculty members of kannada and teachers of other departments also participated in the programme

The programme focused on the concept of ‘Shastreeye Sthanamana.’ The students got to know about the classical status of the languages.

SADHAKARIGE SANMANA

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ of Kannada Department, Govt First Grade College Channaptna, in association with Zilla Kannada Sahithya Parishad, Ramanagara organized a programme SADHAKARIGE SANMANA in the memory of Golden jubilee year of ekeekarana- on 17-02-2017 at Govt First Grade College , Channapatna. Sim.Lim. Nagaraju president of Zilla Kannada Sahithya Parishad attended as president of the programme. Dr. Mayigegowda, Principal of our college inaugurated the programme and Dr. Madhusudanacharya Joshi addressed the programme as chief speaker. All the students of optional kannada , the faculty teachers of Kannada Department and teachers of other departments also participated in the programme. Students got to know about the Karnataka ekeekarana-Unification of Karnataka. They appreciated the efforts involved in the process of unification. Achievers honored in the programme were lauded too.

SPECIAL LECTURE

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ of kannada department Govt First Grade College, Channapatna organised a special lecture about ‘BHASHA SHUDDHI’ on 09-02-2018 at edusat room.

Dr.Prahlad Reddy, senior kannada professor of National college, came as resource person, Dr.Madhusudanacharya Joshi, senior professor of kannada department inaugurated the programme. Dr. Mayigagowda, the principal of our college, presided over the function.

Second and final year students of optional kannada and all the kannada department teaching faculty participated in the programme.

Students came to about the importance of correct pronounciation of language and the correct language usages by the lecture.

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ of Kannada department Govt First Grade College, Channapatna organized a procession named ‘ JANAPADA ULISI – KAALNADIGE JAATA’ on 09-08- 2018 from the college to Janapada Loka, a hub of Folklore. The procession was led by Dr.B.T.Nethravathi, Head of the kannada department and all the faculty of kannada department. First,second and final year students of optional kannada participated in the procession.

MATTE KALYANA DRAMA

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ of kannada department, Govt First Grade College , Channapatna students attended a drama show ‘MATTE KALYANA’ at Ramanagar. Saanehalli naataka sangha presented that drama in the leadership of Panditharadhya shivaacharya Swamiji on 12-08- 2018.

All the students of first, second and final year optional kannada students attended programme led by of Dr. Madhusudanacharya Joshi sir.

Students got knowledge about Molige Maraiah who was one of the staunch devotee of Basaveshwara and also active participant in the anubhava mantapa ghoshti which was run by Basaveshwara.

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’of kannada deprtment Govt First Grade College, Chanapatna organized a special lecture about ‘DAASA SAHITHYA’ on 08-10-2018.

Dr. V. Venkatesh principal of our college presided over the programme , Dr. B.T.Nethrvathi Head of the kannada department inaugurated the programmae and Dr.Vadiraja, kannada professor of Vijaya college , Bangalore was the chief speaker.

All the students of first , second and final year optional kannada students and faculty members of kannada department participated in the programme.

Students by this lecture came to know the features of Dasa sahithya and the importance of the movement in the history of kannada literature.

1.Inaugural Programme of Srujana Kannada Sangha Activities and a special Lecture. In association with ‘Daasa Sahithya Parishad’ Branch, we Inaugurated ‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’s activities and organized a ‘Special Lecture’ programme on 31-09-2019. The programme was presided by Dr.V. Venkatesh respected Principal of our college, inaugurated by Na. Geethacharya, State President of ‘Daasa Sahithya Parishad’, Bangalore. Chief Guest of the programme was Sri.Ellegowda, President of ‘Daasa Sahithya Parishad’, Ramanagara District Branch and the ‘Special Lecture on ‘Daasa Sahithya’ was delivered by Dr. Vadiraja, Asst Professor of Kannada, Vijaya college, Bangalore. Dr. Madhusudan Acharya Joshi, HOD of Kannada Department, delivered the key note speech. All Faculty members of Kannada Department participated in the programme along with students. Programme Outcome: 1.The programme motivated the students to engage in literary activities. 2.Got the knowledge about ‘Daasa Sahithya’. 3.Students got opportunity to show their talents. 2.Symposium. ‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ and in association with ‘Kendra Sahithya Academy’ organized a one day ‘Symposium’ on ‘Mahakavigalada Pampa mattu Kumaravyasara Kruthigala Avlokana’ on 11- 10-2019. Programme was inaugurated by Mallepuram G. Venkatesha, Former Vice Chancellor of Karnataka Sanskrit University, Bangalore. Welcome and key note speech was delivered by N.P. Mahalingeshwara, Regional Secretery of Kendra Sahithya Acadmy and the programme was presided by Dr.V. Venkatesh Respected Principal of our college. Kupnalli M.Byrappa and G.Ashvathnarayana read out well researched essay on Pampa and Kumaravyas The valedictory speech was delivered by Siddha Lingaiah, Sanchalakaru , Kannada Salaha Samithi , Sahithya Academy and the concluding remarks were presented by Dr. Madhusudanacharya Joshi, HOD of Kannada Department. All faculty members of Kannada Department and many renowned professors, scholars, students participated in the programme.

Programme Outcome: 1.Enabled the students to get knowledge about life and times of Pampa and Kumaravyasa. 2.Enabled the students to understand writings of Pampa and Kumaravyasa. 3. Enabled the students to get knowledge about old Kannada Literature.

3.’My Favorite Book’ students speech competition. ‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ in association with ‘Kannada Pustaka Pradhikara’ organized a programme on ‘My Favorite Book’ students speech competition on 07-11-2019. The programme was inaugurated by Pro.M.G. Bharath raj, HOD, Department of Political Science, GFGC Channapatna and Presided over by Dr.V. Venkatesh, Respected Principal of our college. All the faculty members of kannada Department along with students participated in the programme.

4.Workshop on ‘Proof Reading and Book Publishing’.

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha ‘and in association with ‘Kannada Pusthaka Pradhikara’ organized One Day Workshop on ‘Proof Reading and Book Publishing’ on 29-01-2020. The programme was Inaugurated by Dr. Harish M.G., Asst Professor of English, GFGC Channapatna, Presided by Dr.V. Venkatesh, Respected Principal of our college. Dr.J. Lohith Asst Director of Student Welfare Directorate, Mysore University delivered Special Lecture on ‘Proof Reading and Book Publishing’.

All the faculty members of kannada Department along with students participated in the programme.

5.’Bendre Jayanthi’.

‘Srujana Kannada Sangha’ organized ‘D.R. Bendre Birth Anniversary programme on 31- 01-2020. The programme presided by Dr.V. Venkatesh Respected Principal of our college and special lecture on D.R. Bendre was delivered by Dr.Anniah T.B. Convener of Cultural Committee of college.
