MATCH ARRANGEMENT FORM Home clubs must ensure that the Match Arrangement Form is completed and received by The FA Competitions Department by Monday 14 December 2015 by faxing to 0844 980 0609 or emailing to [email protected] – DO NOT POST. Match forms are available on TheFA.com under the following link:- http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/More/match-forms PLAYER QUALIFICATION DATE The player qualification date is 12 noon on Friday 8 January 2016, this includes replays and postponements. A “registered player” is one who is either, in the case of a player under written contract, registered with The Association or, in the case of a player without a written contract, registered with a League in which his club competes in the current season. Any such registration must have been received and accepted by The Association or League by 12 noon on the Friday previous to the date fixed for playing the round, and the registration must be continuous through to the date of the match. Therefore, all players must be registered by 12 noon on Friday 8 January 2016 for any ties played in this round, irrespective of the date of the tie. GROUND SHARING Clubs with ground sharing agreements must arrange for ties to be played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If a clash of fixtures occurs with the sharing club or other sport, if for any reason a tie is unable to be played on the ground of the first drawn club on a Saturday, the tie must be played on either the day before, i.e. on Friday, or the day after, i.e. on Sunday on the ground of the first drawn club. If clubs are unable to agree on the date, then it will be played on the Sunday, unless the National Game Board decides otherwise and that decision shall be final and binding. It is certainly not intended as a record of the first twenty years of the club, as that has been covered more skilfully by club historian, Colin Greenhalgh. More is known of some of these individuals than others. The contents may therefore appear out of balance. Much is taken up with the exploits of Andrew Stoddart but without apology, as his was a remarkable sporting record that has remained virtually unparalleled and was a life that, like several of his sporting contemporaries, ended in tragic circumstances. His story was itself recorded in part in his own albums of cuttings that were thought to be preparatory to a memoir. That never materialised but the contents were taken up by his biographer, David Frith, who felt compelled to write because “here was a wonderful cricketer who has been piteously neglected by historians”.

    10 January 2006 and Boof, Mumbles, Sloon, HumptyDoo, Tickets, Walt and Jack for the Redbacks take on the Western Warriors in the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash at Adelaide Oval on a big night out. Diz scratched, sensible man. 14,298 people rock up and plenty of them munch their way through mountains of hamburgers, pies, chips, magnum and cornetto ice creams, and wash it all down with beers, cokes and maybe a glass of wine or two. Out in the middle blokes have bats and a ball in their hands but you have to wonder what for. I leave early and run into journalist (and former player) Alan Shiell. He remarks on my going and I say ‘I’ve seen it once and once is enough’. He says ‘that’s a fair call’, shakes his head, and adds there's nothing to interpret, you may as well just print the scores’. The Australian attempts a national interpretation in its editorial the next day: As abominations go, Twenty20 cricket is a lot of fun. The record crowd of 40,000 who turned out at the Gabba to watch Australia teach South Africa a lesson on Monday had a great time. But a lesson in what? Not in the cunning and craft that every Test player needs, or even the tactics, energy and ingenuity it takes to succeed in the one-day game. That’s because Twenty20 requires a different skill set. With each side facing 20 overs, it is a game for broad shouldered batsmen, whose idea of finesse is to swing, run and hope for the best.

    Northern Counties vs. Southern Counties Contests On the 5th September 2020 as a result of the ECF’s new venture the Online Counties Competition a match of ‘unprecedented’ proportion is to take a place, an online Northern Counties vs. Southern Counties Contest. The match will involve all five Unions split of course along a North/South divide, namely North (MCCU, NCCU and Oxfordshire) and South (Chiltern League, EACU, SCCU and WECU). Note Oxfordshire initially played in MCCA (Midland Counties Chess Association now MCCU) competition so have been assigned to the North if only to balance the number of counties on each side. It could be said that having introduced an online county championship the next ‘natural’ step for the ECF is to conduct a match combining the relative strengths of the North and South. The ECF is to be congratulated for holding an online county championship followed by a North vs. South Contest but is the latter really ‘unprecedented’? For those who are not really interested in or aware of chess history the notion of such a match being ‘unprecedented’ may indeed be correct, however, some chess historians know better! “…no challenge had been received from the North to play a match this season [1894-95]. It was probable that challenge would be received from the North to play a match on their ground in 1896.” The above is an extract from the SCCU 1895 AGM when the Council express disappointment that a third North vs. South match had not taken place. The previous two years had seen two successful encounters and since expected to be an annual event a third instalment, again to be hosted by the North, was anticipated but it never got off the ground.
