Popular Mexican band Grupo Yndio opens for The E Family

Saratoga, CA Legendary percussionist Pete Escovedo and his immensely talented family will ignite their unrivaled Latin rhythms under the stars July 9, in the Lilian Fontaine Garden Theatre. The Latin Jazz Dynasty features Pete’s daughter, the Emmy and Grammy nominee and world renown percussionist, producer, composer and arranger Sheila E; first born son Juan Escovedo, an accomplished percussionist, songwriter and leader of his own orchestra; and Peter Michael, the youngest son and an Emmy, nominee, percussionist, producer, singer, songwriter and musical director.

Grupo Yndio, a wildly popular band from Sonora, Mexico, will open for The E Family. Yndio’s first big hit, “Sin Tu Amor,” came in mid‐‘70s and the band had several other hits, including “Eres Mi Mundo,” “Herido de Amor” and “Dame un Beso y Dime Adio.” They are also known for performing cover songs and ballads in English and their “Melodia Desencadenada,” was the Spanish‐language version of the Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody.” In 1998 the band released their first album with the famed Latin label Fonovisa, El Leon Despierto, which featured performances by several well‐known guest musicians like requinto player Chamin Correa Perez de Leon and mariachi man Arriba Juarez. ~ Stacia Proefrock, Rovi. With five of the six original members still performing since the 1970s, the group continues to tour the United States, Mexico and Central America.

(more) The E Family released their new CD, Now & Forever,” in February 2011. This special 13‐track collection features Grammy Award‐winning guest artists sharing musical influences from the Latin, Hip Hop, Pop and Jazz worlds. Contributing artists include Earth, Wind & Fire, Gloria Estefan, Joss Stone, Israel Houghton, Rafael Saadiq, George Duke, Damon Castillo and Wes Quave.

Pete Escovedo is largely credited with breaking down the barriers between Smooth Jazz, Salsa, Latin Jazz and contemporary music. A native Californian, Pete formed his first of several bands in 1960 and is one of the early band members of Santana. He has performed and toured with such musical greats as , Tito Puente, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Boz Scaggs and Bobby McFerrin. Today, Pete leads one of the country’s top orchestras, which performs their unique brand of Latin Jazz.

Early on Pete cultivated a passion for music in his four children, including, passing on the “performance gene.” The E Family performs throughout the world and most recently opened for Prince in Los Angeles and performed on the George “LOPEZ TONIGHT” Show.

Sheila E Grammy and Emmy nominee Sheila E has earned a spot as one of the most respected percussionists in the world. A vocalist, songwriter, producer, composer and arranger, Sheila E has performed and recorded with countless artists, including Diana Ross, Gloria Estefan, Ringo Starr, Patti LaBelle and Placido Domingo. Most recently, she performed on the David Letterman Show and has been the musical director for Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce Knowles and Prince. Sheila E was nominated for an Emmy for her Outstanding Music Direction for “Fiesta Latina, A Performance at the White House.”

Juan Escovedo Juan Escovedo, an accomplished percussionist, songwriter, drummer, conguero, timbalero and bandleader began touring with his father at age 14 and now leads his own band, “The Juan Escovedo Orchestra.” He has toured, performed or recorded with many diverse artists, including MC Hammer, Jody Watley, Bobby McFerrin, Prince, Barry White, Tito Puente and many others. Juan has made appearances in several films, including “JACK,” starring Robin Williams. He performs, tours, writes and records as a solo artist and with his band and The E Family.

Peter Michael Escovedo Emmy nominee Peter Michael has garnered a reputation not only as a percussionist, but also as a producer, singer, songwriter and television personality. He has contributed to numerous world tours, produced television shows (“The Wayne Brady Show” and “The Martin Short Show”), written music for film and theme songs for television and, composed, arranged and produced music for a variety of artists. He’s worked with Mariah Carey, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Nicks, George Michael and many others in the music industry.

The extraordinary E Family is the fifth concert in the 2011 ARTTEC Summer Concert Series at Montalvo’s charming and intimate Lilian Fontaine Garden Theater. ARTTEC is an innovative partnership between Montalvo and the Sobrato Arts Foundation for Education that provides hands‐on training and mentoring for high school students in the performing arts industry. Throughout the concert series, students will work directly with concert production professionals and high‐caliber artists in learning about the performing arts business and backstage production, while gaining real‐world work experience.

Every ticket sold in the summer concert series supports both nonprofit arts institutions.

The Montalvo Experience: Surrounded by Italianate gardens and a stunning Mediterranean Villa, concertgoers are encouraged to picnic on the historic grounds or enjoy delicious offerings from the on‐ site concessions before the performance. Gourmet dinners will be served on the villa’s beautiful veranda before each performance and must be pre‐ordered through the box office.
