Greece- Sailing 8 Days in Sporades Islands Edited SAILING 8 DAYS IN THE SPORADES ISLANDS ABOARD THE YACHT ANATOLIE IN AEGEAN SEA ITINERARY Day 1-Saturday evening ( / ) After arrival from Athens international airport, board Anatolie in Agios Konstantinos or Kamela Vourla. Day 2 to day 7-Sailing among the coves and harbors of The south Pelion→ Skiatos, Skopelos→Alonissos The south Pelion peninsula : The Pelion peninsula in Central Greece has one of the most stunning and beautiful coastlines in the country. It is the perfect combination of sea and mountains, where the purest elements of nature blend together perfectly, creating a landscape unlike any other. A large number of Persian Xerxes’s ships were destroyed here as the result of a huge storm in 480 BC, when they were sailing to southern Greece (Herodotus book Z’ & H). According to famous historians, on the site today where the village of Platanias is located, was the ancient city Afetes, a safe harbor that was used by the Persians during their expedition to Greece. Those ships, after the battle with the Greek navy, were heading to the Artemision cave of North Evia. The southern peninsula of Pelion combines the crystal blue waters of the Aegean sea and the Pagasitic Gulf, creating a summer paradise, with beautiful sandy beaches, charming coastal villages. Skiatos : Skiatos is famous for the golden beaches, the green nature and the vivid atmosphere. The most popular beaches are located on the southern side of the island, that includes the famous bay of Koukounaries. The beach of Lalaria, accessible only by boat trip, is very impressive and also goes to the Medieval Castle of the island. In the inland, you will also find two lovely monasteries, the monastery of Evangelistria and of Kounoupitsa. The Town is the centre of activities on the island, where visitors head in the evenings to enjoy a relaxing drink. Skopelos : Located between Skiathos and Alonissos, Skopelos is a beautiful island with many Byzantine monasteries that became famous when scenes of the Hollywood movie Mamma Mia were filmed few years ago. In fact, the impressive church of Agios Ioannis Kastri is known as the Mamma Mia Church. The beaches of Skopelos island have crystal water and they are ideal to enjoy a long day under the sun. Town and Glossa, the two main villages of the island, are constructed on top of a hill and offer spectacular views of the Aegean Sea. Alonissos : Alonissos is an authentic island mostly known for its incredible natural beauty and the amazing beaches. The most picturesque spot of Alonissos island is Chora, a charming traditional village with whitewashed houses and narrow paved streets. It is located on top of a hill and offers a great view to the Aegean Sea. We also recommend to visit the villages of Patitiri, Votsi, Roussoum Gialos and Steni Vala. The beaches have crystal blue water and are surrounded by lush greenery, that creates a relaxing atmosphere. 550 Washington St, Suite 641, San Diego, CA 92103 Phone: 415-952-0319 Email: [email protected] www.zuzulutravel.com Day 8 : Saturday morning (B) Disembarkation around 9am and transfer back to Athens airport. • 20 Top Things to Do in Pelion
20 Top Things to Do in Pelion https://travelgreecetraveleurope.com/2017/01/31/top-things-to-do-in-pelion/ 1) Damouhari Port: Mama Mia Filmed Here The traffic-free coast of Damouhari has a more recent claim to fame as the location of the “Dancing Queen” scene in the Hollywood movie Mama Mia (2008) starring Meryl Streep. After our hike through Tsagarada we walked through the scenic port. I loved taking in the stunning rocky landscape, which seemed to be both wild and stunning at the same time. Damouhari Port, Pelion, to the right. Meryl Streep was here! 2) The Pelion Train The Pelion Train, also known as the Little Train of Pelion, is a narrow gauge (60 cm) train that seemed to me like a toy train with its maintained vintage look. It’s even parked in a colorful little train station. The train began operating more than a century ago between Volos and Lehonia in 1895 and between Lehonia and Milies in 1903. It covers 29 kilometers, on tracks that run through verdant forests and across 12 bridges. Tip: Return tickets are 18€ for adults and 10€ for kids. Further information for tickets, timetables, contact the Travel Office of Volos TRAINOSE +30 24210 39723. 3) Taksiarchon Church / Church of the Archangels I rate a visit to this church as one of the top things to do in Pelion because the stunning interior frescoes took me off guard. Located in the main square of Millies, the actual construction date of the church is unknown. However, it was renovated in 1741.
