  • Israel's Response to Terrorism
Effective solidarity among states has become a prerequisite for ultimately succeeding in the war of the West against jihadist terrorism. A cohesive military strategy is needed for the West, the Arab states that are threatened, and Israel. It stands to reason that, just as all three face similar threats, the JERUSALEM models developed in Israel for dealing with terror merit attention in Europe and beyond. BERLIN Amb. We explore the notion of commemorating in the wider American context, and expand on this to discuss Israel’s Remembrance Day, and what it means to commemorate from a distance. Goals : • The students will grasp the challenge of commemorating the fallen from a geographical and psychological distance. • The students will be challenged to assess the role of a mourner from afar • The students will explore the meaning of being connected to Jews they have never met • The students will explore various ways of moving beyond the obstacle of distance, allowing North American Jewry to connect to Remembrance Day • The students will be challenged to draw closer and connect to the fallen soldiers in Israel, despite the distance • The students will be given the opportunity to design their own program to mark Israel Remembrance Day Outline : Part 1 : Trigger exercise In the first part, students will participate in drama exercise to introduce the theme of the lesson. Part 2 : Discussion A. • Mediation in a Conflict Society an Ethnographic View on Mediation
The London School of Economics and Political Science Mediation in a Conflict Society An Ethnographic View on Mediation Processes in Israel Edite Ronnen A thesis submitted to the Department of Law of the London School of Economics for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, London, October 2011 1 For Inbar, Ori and Eran לענבר, לאורי – שבלעדיהם אין לערן – שבגללו 2 DECLARATION I certify that the thesis I have presented for examination for the PhD degree of the London School of Economics and Political Science is solely my own work other than where I have clearly indicated that it is the work of others (in which case the extent of any work carried out jointly by me and any other person is clearly identified in it). The copyright of this thesis rests with the author. Quotation from it is permitted, provided that full acknowledgement is made. This thesis may not be reproduced without the prior written consent of the author. I warrant that this authorization does not, to the best of my belief, infringe the rights of any third party. 3 Abstract This thesis addresses the question: how do individuals in a conflict society engage in peaceful dispute resolution through mediation? It provides a close look at Israeli society, in which people face daily conflicts. These include confrontations on many levels: the national, such as wars and terror attacks; the social, such as ethnic, religious and economic tensions; and the personal level, whereby the number of lawyers and legal claims per capita are among the highest in the world. The magnitude, pervasiveness, and often existential nature of these conflicts have led sociologists to label Israel a ‘conflict society’.

  • Roi Klein (July 10, 1975—July 26, 2006) Roi Klein Was a Major in the Israeli Army and One of the Greatest Soldiers of His Time
Dear Youth Directors, Youth chairs, and Youth Leaders, NCYI is excited to continue our very successful Parsha Nation Guides. I hope you’re enjoying and learning from Parsha Nation as much as we are. Putting together Parsha Nation every week is indeed no easy task. It takes a lot of time and effort to ensure that each section, as well as each age group, receives the attention and dedication it deserves. We inspire and mold future leaders. The youth leaders of Young Israel have the distinct honor and privilege to teach and develop the youth of Young Israel. Children today are constantly looking for role models and inspirations to latch on to and learn from. Whether it is actual sit down learning sessions, exciting Parsha trivia games, or even just walking down the hall to the Kiddush room, our youth look to us and watch our every move. It’s not always about the things we say, it’s about the things we do. Our children hear and see everything we do whether we realize it or not. This year we are taking our Youth Services to new heights as we introduce our Leadership Training Shabbaton. This engaging, interactive shabbaton will give youth leader’s hands on experience and practical solutions to effectively guide your youth department. Informal education is key. What the summer shows us as educators is that informal education can deliver better results and help increase our youth’s connection to Hashem. More and more shuls are revamping their youth program to give their children a better connection to shul and to Hashem.
