What is happening?

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT NANAMI, COTTONS WEIR AND JEMALONG

MINOR FLOODING LIKELY AT FORBES SATURDAY

MODERATE FLOODING LIKELY AT COTTONS WEIR AND JEMALONG FROM SUNDAY

Recent rainfall over the Lachlan River catchment area has caused minor flooding along the Lachlan River at Nanami, Cottons Weir and Jemalong.

There is the potential of moderate flooding along the Lachlan River at Cottons Weir and Jemalong from Sunday into early next week.

Longer duration peak river levels are expected at forecast locations. Predictions for locations downstream of Jemalong will be provided once the upstream peaks are observed.

The main flood peak from the previous rainfall event is now downstream of Euabalong, where the river level peaked on Wednesday with minor flooding likely continuing.

The Lachlan River at Hillston is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.40 metres). What we are expecting:

Lachlan River downstream of to Jemalong Weir:

Minor flooding is occurring along the Lachlan River at Nanami, Cottons Weir and Jemalong. Moderate flooding is likely at Cottons Weir and Jemalong.

The Lachlan River at Nanami is currently at 8.95 metres and steady, with minor flooding. The Lachlan River at Nanami is expected to remain around 8.95 metres Saturday into Sunday.

The Lachlan River at Forbes Iron Bridge is currently at 8.71 metres and rising. The Lachlan River at Forbes Iron Bridge is expected to exceed the minor flood level (8.80 m) around 03:30 pm Saturday, with minor flooding. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (9.50 m) Sunday morning.

The Lachlan River at Cottons Weir is currently at 4.77 metres and rising, with minor flooding.

The Lachlan River at Cottons Weir is likely to reach the moderate flood level (5.30 m) during Sunday, with moderate flooding.

The Lachlan River at Jemalong Weir Downstream is currently at 7.27 metres and rising, with minor flooding. The Lachlan River at Jemalong Weir Downstream may reach the moderate flood level (7.50 m) during Monday.

Lower Lachlan River downstream of Jemalong Weir to Euabalong:

Minor flooding is occurring at Euabalong.

The Lachlan River at Euabalong peaked around 6.48 metres on Wednesday. River levels are falling with minor flooding continuing. What you need to do: Should river heights continue to rise residents need to consider the impact of potential isolation.

Farmers and landholders in those areas are advised to relocate livestock, pumps and machinery to higher ground. Waste and chemical containers should be located well above predicted flood levels.

Nanami Peak Height Minor - Landholders adjacent to the river east and west of Gooloogong have access problems and low lying land start to become affected and Kangarooby Creek could flood Gooloogong-Cowra Road ().

Forbes Iron Bridge Peak Height Minor – during Saturday and may reach Moderate Sunday 29th August - The Park on Lake Forbes floods including footpaths, Low lying areas adjacent to the river can flood, Multiple roads are likely to be flooded including Gooloogong road at Dukes Crossing, Wirrinya Road at the Dog and Duck Crossing on Bundaburrah Creek, Grenfell road (Henry Lawson Way) at Muddy Lagoon. Caravans and campers need to move away from low lying areas.

Cottons Weir Peak Height Minor – may reach Moderate during Sunday 29th August - A number of roads are flooded including the Forbes-Gooloogong road (Lachlan Valley Way) at Dukes Crossing and the Forbes-Old Grenfell road (Henry Lawson Way) at Muddy Lagoon/Bundaburrah Creek, New Grenfell Road at Bundaburrah Creek and the Escort Way - preventing access south and east between Forbes, Grenfell, Gooloogong and Eugowra. Alternative access available via the Newell Highway. Water may be across North Road at “Little Plains”.

Jemalong Weir height Minor – may reach Moderate during Monday 30th August – Farmers should move pumps and stock, Water will be across the Bedgerebong Road at Little Plains, Water will be crossing the Forbes-Condobolin Road at Jemalong homestead.

Euabalong Peak Height Minor - The Booberoi Road (Euabalong - Condobolin- road via Booberoi is closed at Gunnebang (5.40 metres at the Kiacatoo gauge). Access to Booberoi is still available on this road. Access to Condobolin is still available via Lachlan Valley Way but will close with further river rises.

Rural flooding begins to affect the access of some landholders to properties adjacent to the river.
