Joint Statement from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Metro Atlanta Chamber regarding the passage of HB 426 for Hate Crimes Legislation in Georgia:

“Today marks a truly unprecedented moment in Georgia history. Our state and local leaders, business community, civic organizations, and our neighbors chose unity and helped to pass a comprehensive hate crimes bill in a historic and overwhelming bi-partisan vote.

“To our elected officials: You heard the cries of our citizens and acted with integrity. We commend you for doing what is right for the future of Georgia. The leadership of House Speaker David Ralston and Lt. Governor , along with the entire body of the , was instrumental in making this effort a success. Rep. , Rep. , Sen. Harold Jones, and Sen. Bill Cowsert led courageously to pass a hate crimes bill, and we are now standing on the right side of history.

“To our business leaders and civic organizations: You have proven once again that the spirit of collaboration is alive and well in our state. Working together, we can get things done for the common good. You led from the heart and seized this opportunity to advocate for a change that will continue to drive our state’s reputation as the number one place to do business.

“To all the men and women across Georgia: You had the courage to speak up for the good of our children and grandchildren, and your voices were heard. You proved that while we may not agree on every point, we come together to do what is right.

“All Georgians are better off because we stand together against hate.”
