Mr Mayor, Mr Buchmann, why should Graz become a City of Design? Siegfried Nagl: Graz meets the conditions. The city has a young, vital creative scene whose achievements have be- come increasingly firmly anchored in public awareness ... Christian Buchmann: … and in Graz and Styria the ambient conditions are also right. The Styrian government has de- fined the creative economy as one of our strengths, so as to provide official support for the creative scene. That’s after all also one of the chief reasons why Creative Industries Styria GmbH was set up – to channel that creative energy and make it more visible to outsiders. With regard to visibility, Graz reached a wide public with the Cultural Capital year. Can that experience be used now for the City of Design project? Buchmann: Absolutely. The area forms part of an industrial area with a narrow and declining economic base. The area is experiencing high unemployment, a high percentage of immigrants, low average level of education, social exclusion, as well as transport-led environmental pressures. Hunting Museum: Innovative presentation in historical walls In several stages of construction an exhibition area of 1200m² was created, new depots built, the box-office and shop areas redesigned, and the administration area revitalised at Stainz Castle, that was built in 1695 and acquired by Archduke John in 1840. The innovative presentation not only fits in consummately with the historical setting of Stainz Castle, it also spotlights the long standing tradition of hunting in Styria, particularly the founder of the Joanneum, Archduke John, who was known as a passionate hunter and whose heirs now run Stainz Castle as a modern enterprise.

Under its leadership, 3276m of railway line will be installed using the “ÖBB-PORR elastically supported slab system”. Construction work on the slab tracks of line 1 in the Hengsberg Tunnel and the Weitendorf FW12 underpass, Different types of ÖBB-PORR track support slabs Oberbau 66.03 section has started on 5 February 2016. Line Image: PORR AG 2 was built also under the leadership of PORR Bau GmbH in 2010 as a slab track and has been operational since December 2010. The following concrete and surface works will be carried out for ÖBB: Line 1 slab tracks Track cover with load bearing sound-absorbing slabs Switch in slab tracks Light mass-spring system in the Weitendorf FW12 underpass Load distribution slabs Pre-ballasting on the connecting line The main construction work on the slab tracks will be carried out over a 7 week period from 11 July to 26 August 2016 during which time the tracks will be closed. The work will mainly be carried out on rails in shifts. This construction work is a part of the new Koralm Railway Line project between Graz and Klagenfurt. Construction of the Koralm Railway Line began in 1999. The new 130km-long line will be completed in 2023. Primarily through loans to build up the economy and diplomatic pressure, the United States and Great Britain helped to maintain an independent Austrian state and prevent an Anschluss or union with Germany from 1918 to 1934. In addition, this study examines the minority of Austrians who opposed an Anschluss . The three main groups of Austrians that supported independence were the Christian Social Party, monarchists, and some industries and industrialists. These Austrian nationalists cooperated with the Americans and British in sustaining an unwilling Austrian nation. Ultimately, the global depression weakened American and British capacity to practice dollar and pound diplomacy, and the popular appeal of Hitler combined with Nazi Germany’s aggression led to the realization of the Anschluss .

Since they were originally imported from England, they were called “bicycles”. The word Fahrrad came later (though in Swiss German, Velo became the established term). Regular production of high wheel bicycles in Austria-Hungary began in Jan Kohout’s factory for agricultural machines in Smíchov, near Prague, in 1880, following English designs. Kohout’s sons Josef and Petr made a name for themselves and the bicycles as successful racers. Smaller makers before 1885, such as Valentin Wiegele in Korpitsch near Villach, only became known locally. In Vienna, Karl Greger’s Velociped-Fabrik started making high wheel bicycles in 1884 under the brand name ‘Austria’; the annual output seems to have reached 300–400 bicy- cles. In 1896, Greger was mentioned as “the oldest bicycle factory of Austria and one of the largest on the continent”, and as “ founder of the bicycle industry in Austria-Hunga- ry”. At about the same time as Greger, Carl Goldeband and the sewing-machine factory of H. Wagner also began making bicycles in Vienna.     Croatian Political Science Review, Vol. 55, No. 2, 2018, pp. 33-49 33 Original research article Received: 21 August 2017 DOI: 10.20901/pm.55.2.02 Post-Communist Memory Culture and the Historiography of the Second World War and the Post-War Execution of Slovenian Collaborationists OTO LUTHAR Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts Summary This paper aims to summarize the transformations in contemporary Slove- nia’s post-socialist memorial landscape as well as to provide an analysis of the historiographical representation of The Second World War in the Slovenian territory. The analysis focuses on the works of both Slovenian professional and amateur historiographical production, that address historic developments which took place during the Second World War and in its immediate aftermath from the perspective of the post-war withdrawal of the members of various military units (and their families) that collaborated with the occupiers during the Second World War. Keywords: Slovenes, Partisans, Home Guards, Historiography, Memory Introduction The debate on post-communist/post-socialist historical interpretation has become an inseparable part of the new politics of the past across Eastern and Southeastern Europe. In Slovenia, the once-vivid historiographical debate on the nature of histo- rical explanation has been ever since largely overshadowed by new attempts to mo- nopolize historical interpretation. The discussion, that has been led from the 1980s onwards, has brought forward new forms of historical representation which have once again given way to the politicized reinterpretation of the most disputed parts of the Second World War and the subsequent time of socialism.
