Four Hybrid Tower

Classic Series The NHT Classic Four is a formidable tower style loudspeaker. While the Classic Four looks like a conventional tower speaker, it’s really a three-way bookshelf speaker (the Classic Three) sitting on it’s own, integrated stand. This design provides the detailed imaging, delicious midrange and natural sound-stag- ing of a fine bookshelf speaker with the bass and dynamics you’d expect from a first class tower speaker. Provided you use a reasonably powerful, high-quality receiver or pre/power- setup, the Four can fill a medium to large room with rich, full-range sound with ease. The Classic Four is perfectly at home in a high-quality home theater or in a reference 2-channel music playback system.

Acoustic Suspension Hybrid: The Classic Four is an acoustic suspension design where it really counts - the critical midrange frequencies. In this section of the speaker, we use the air (natures most perfect spring) that is trapped inside the cabinet to control and “damp” the mid- cone motion - like shocks on a car. This ensures the Classic Four will deliver smooth, natural midrange with untra- low distortion along with high power handling ability - an NHT hallmark. This sealed upper section blends perfectly with the built-in yet acoustically isolated, side-mounted 10” subwoofer that will provide usable in-room bass response to a remarkable 24Hz. This hybrid design allow the speaker to to deliver accurate midrange sonics you’d expect from a high end monitor speaker with the bass and dynamics that a larger floor standing speaker can provide. In addition, the subwoofer section may be bi-amplified for even more spectacular results. The Classic Four offer all this performance and technology in a price range typical of high-end bookshelf speakers

Location, location, location: The Classic Four is a 4-way design (unusual as most tower speakers in this price range are 3-way designs). It uses a custom designed 10” aluminum cone subwoofer which is mounted on the lower side of the cabi- net near the floor, on a wide baffle - an acoustic environment well suited for low frequencies. The mid and high-frequency drivers are located proper acoustical environment as well - located on the narrow front baffle like a fine bookshelf speaker on a stand away from the walls. The low and high frequency portions of the speaker can be (bi)amplified separately for maximum performance.

The Cabinet that is Art: The Four is made with CNC milled and laminated MDF (medium density fiberboard) of varying thicknesses. The front baffle is 30mm think full length. All other speaker panels are either 25 or 18mm. The Four has extensive internal bracing for rigidity which helps reduce unwanted resonances. Along with the internal braces, the Four’s cabinet actually has separate, acousti- cally isolated sub-enclosures for the mid/high frequency drivers and subwoofer sections. The the top front of the Four’s cabinet has variable radiuses flanking the midrange-tweeter module which help to randomize the upper frequency dif- fraction effects insuring great on and off-axis performance. The cabinet’s curved top, gentle edge radiuses and hand-rubbed, high-gloss piano-black finish lend a sense of timelessness to its visual aspect. Classic Four’s are sold and packaged individually as left or right side speakers. Also included are 2-piece BMC formed stabilizer wings with threaded inserts for included carpet spikes. Rubber pads are included for hard flooring.

Adding a Subwoofer: The Classic Four is a full range speaker making a subwoofer completely optional. Adding a NHT Classic series subwoofer to a pair of Classic Fours will however allow the Fours to have additional application flexibility and allow the use of a less powerful receiver or amplifier. For example, Fours can be configured by your receiver or processor to operate as solo, full-range speaker for 2-channel music playback and then configured as large main speakers in the home theater mode - allowing separate subwoofer(s) to improve system dynamics and lowering total system distortion. If you are considering a subwoofer, we recommend one or two Classic B-12d’s as the perfect match followed by one or two Classic B-10d.

Mixing and Matching: Building a home theater system? All NHT speakers are designed and voiced with the same design goals so you have the freedom to use any of our Classic Series center channel speakers. That said, the spot on recom- mend would be the Classic ThreeC center channel speaker followed closely by the Classic TwoC. Rear speakers? The perfect match would be stand or wall mounted Classic Three’s for surround and back channels but many people may opt for the Classic Absolute Zero’s in Black or White because of their compact size (or a combination of both).
