The Manitoba Tartan

The Manitoba Tartan was approved by Lord Lyon King at Arms, guardian if the Scottish Heraldry and is registered in Scotland as the official tartan of the province. Each colour in the tartan has its own significance: • Dark Red Squares for the Red River Settlement and the fur trade • Green Squares for its rich natural resources • Azure Blue Lines for Thomas Douglas, fifth Earl of Selkirk, founder of the Red River Settlement and where the lines intersect the forks of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers • Dark Green Lines for the many nationalities that have enriched life in Manitoba • Golden Lines for the grain crops and farm produce- a large portion of the province’s economy • White Squares in the “dress” tartan for Manitoba’s winter snows

B&B’s vary in style, ambiance and personality.

What does not vary is our standard for comfort and cleanliness and the warm hospitality of our hosts! B&B Etiquette Staying at a Bed & Breakfast may be a new and wonderful experience. Here are a few points you may wish to consider to help make your stay as pleasant as possible. • If you have special dietary requirements, inform your host when you book. • Ask about cancellation and refund policies when you book. • Let your hosts know when you plan to arrive and call if the time changes. • If you don’t have a reservation, phone before dropping in. • Knock, don’t just walk in the door. • Remember you are paying for bed and breakfast only, so plan to arrive after no earlier than late afternoon and leave by mid-morning at the latest. • Hosts need their privacy – respect areas of the home that are off-limits. • If you are sharing a bathroom, try for 10 – 15 minutes use. • Keep showers short – there’s not always a lot of hot water. • Don’t leave personal articles or towels behind in a shared bathroom. • Don’t expect baby-sitting,laundry facilities or room in the fridge. • Show up for breakfast at the agreed upon time. • Introduce yourself to the other guests if the host is busy. • If you’re staying more than one night,be aware that hosts don’t always make beds, they don’t want to intrude on your privacy. • Relax and enjoy what each B&B has to offer. You are a welcomed guest in someone’s home. Your hosts are in this business because they enjoy meeting interesting, friendly people like you.
