We hope you will find the position of District or Area International Adviser both interesting and rewarding as you become familiar with the world-wide aspect of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. This Handbook has been developed to assist you in your position. In an effort to use our resources wisely, we are distributing this handbook electronically. You may print pages as needed. The Handbook is divided into sections, each of which is numbered separately. This should make it easy for you to replace individual sections as they are revised. The International program is always changing so it is very important to keep your manual up-to-date. Be sure to familiarize yourself with all the information provided in this Handbook so you will be able to answer questions when asked. It is important that all District and Area International Advisers are working with the same material at all times. Please update your Handbook when requested so that you don’t accidentally give someone the wrong information. Young girls are fascinated with the idea of 'other lands', and the dressing-up, games, songs and food that provide the samplers of far away countries, and this interest increases as they grow in Guiding. It is your responsibility to foster this interest in International and inspire the girls to learn more and more about Guiding in other lands. One of the objectives of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts - WAGGGS - is to contribute to world peace and understanding. To help achieve this, Girl Guides of Canada maintains contact with other Member Countries through correspondence and exchange visits. Through the Canadian World Friendship Fund (CWFF), we support the World Centres, Mutual Aid, and help Member countries suffering from natural disasters. The CWFF provides financial support to Members who are selected Nationally to represent Canada at international events and to assist girls from other countries to accept invitations issued by Canada and the provinces. Forms can be downloaded from the Girl Guides of Canada Web site (www.girlguides.ca). If you do not have access to the internet, please contact the Provincial Office to obtain the most current forms. The forms change frequently, so we encourage our Members to download only the forms that they require as they need them. All International Advisers will receive a newsletter, WAGGGLES, from the International Committee throughout the year. This newsletter contains the latest information on what is happening of International interest in BC. We are always happy to receive items of interest that you may wish to share with other International Advisers: events, crafts, program, and training ideas that have worked well for you and others. Please send these to us to include in our newsletter (Send to: Provincial International Committee, c/o Area Liaison). Revised October 2011 i-3 BC International Advisers’ Handbook Every International Adviser will receive the Canadian Guider magazine and Pipeline. The Area International Adviser will also share additional information sent to her with District International Advisers. It is important to include updates at Council meetings and to distribute information in a timely manner. These Handbooks are sent only to International Advisers. In situations where vacancies have not been filled, it is the responsibility of the Commissioner to promote International and in consultation with the Area International Adviser, see that correct procedures are followed. On completion of your term, please do not pass this handbook on to your successor. The new Adviser will be sent her own copy from the Provincial Office. Please recycle your copy. The International Committee hopes you will enjoy your term as International Adviser, and if you need any assistance, please do not hesitate to write, phone, fax, or e-mail us at info@bc- girlguides.org or
