This demonstrates the robust and detailed nature of the Search for a Star programme; the applicants understood the true nature of the job and Burrows were able to effectively evaluate the students. Recognised As A Local Employer Of Choice - Successful ● In previous years Burrows had struggled to reach out to competent / skilled students and had suffered from poor quality applicants. The Search for a Star programme saw a reversal of this trend. By reaching out through school engagement the programme allowed Burrows to engage with students who may not have considered a career in the automotive industry. ● The Dealership Open Evenings allow parents to engage with the company. It is imperative that parents support their child’s career choices and the open evenings enabled them to ask questions / ease any concerns and more importantly meet the people who would be responsible for mentoring and training their children. ● The programme addressed the issue of a skills shortage in terms of low quality and number of applicants for apprenticeships and allowed Burrows to ‘take its pick’ of local talent ● The programme allowed the business to ‘fish’ in a larger talent pool. It also enabled Burrows to connect with these students early on in their decision-making process. ● The programme changed the opinions of both students and their parents regarding possible career opportunities in the motor trade. This was evident at the dealership open evenings. Corporate Social Responsibility - Successful ● Gaia Innovation on behalf of Burrows, and the Burrows team directly, engaged with around 1500 students th providing inspirational presentations about the key role of automotive in the 4 Industrial Revolution, jobs of the future, automotive industry careers, the benefits of apprenticeship programmes and Burrows as a local employer of choice. ● Doncaster engaged additionally with Balby Carr Academy with 7 students participating in a work placement scheme at Toyota and Hyundai. ● Rotherham Toyota through Dinnington High School sponsored a local boys football team. ● Barnsley Toyota enabled Darton School to attend an inspirational event managed by Gaia Innovation by funding a minibus. ● Sheffield Toyota participated in a ‘Guess My Job’ at Forge Valley School and provided an additional work experience placement for a student ● Gaia Innovation represented Burrows and the retail automotive industry at careers events at Rossington All Saints Academy, Holy Trinity Barnsley and King Edward VII School Sheffield Brand Awareness / Relationship Marketing - Moderately Successful ● The programme gives Burrows the opportunity to engage with its local community from a young age.
