Activity title Answers Sign language Swim between the flags. Lifesavers on duty. The red and yellow flags show that a lifesaving service is on patrol and indicate the safest part of the beach for swimming.

No swimming. Be aware of rips. Rips are strong currents of water flowing away from the beach. They can cause people to be swept out to sea quickly. If caught in a rip, signal for help.

Shark sighted, be aware. A shark has been seen and beachgoers should be aware. If deemed necessary, the beach will be closed and entering the water is not allowed.

Children must be supervised. Most public pool rules state that young children and weak swimmers must have an adult in the water with them. Older children and strong swimmers must at least have an adult watching them nearby.

No diving. Diving into shallow water is dangerous and can cause spinal cord injuries. Always enter water feet first to check the depth before diving in.

No running. All that splashing means the floor around the pool is slippery. Walking near a swimming pool reduces your risk of slipping and injuring yourself.
