It’s Your Business kicked off in Fall 2011 with an initial survey asking local businesses for feedback. As responses were received, the Dana Point Business Services Team took action to CITY NEWS connect with the business and provide solutions or education in order to continue making Dana Point the best it can be for businesses. The survey was hand-delivered to hundreds of businesses throughout the community for face-to-face interactions. It’s Your Business created accessibility and communication between businesses, City, Police and Chamber personnel. It is encouraging business retention and expansion, job growth and opportunity, and developing a more cohesive, collaborative professional environment in Dana Point. Through this program, the Dana Point Business Services Team has learned more about what is going well in the business community and where extra assistance or enhanced services are needed. More than half of business participants noted that the strong sense of community is what they enjoy most about doing business in Dana Point, and one-third noted the business climate is good and steady. The location and environment of Dana Point was the biggest draw for the businesses to open here, and for 91 percent of the responders this reason has not changed. The It’s Your Business survey garnered 151 responses. When asked what their biggest concern is as a business in Dana Point, nearly one-third of participants noted year-round patronage from the local community. About 60 percent of responding businesses believe that their success is highly dependent on Dana Point residents shopping with them. Remember to Shop Locally Dana Point has many shops and restaurants – all of which depend on local support. Remember to support your favorite Dana Point businesses, and to discover new shopping and dining opportunities in town. Always wanted to check out that little shop or try that neighborhood restaurant? Dana Point businesses appreciate and need your business! www.danapoint.org 3 SPRING 2012 | CITY OF DANA POINT Development Updates CITY NEWS Doheny Village A successful Doheny Village public workshop was held at Capo Calvary Church in the heart of Doheny Village in November 2011. This was the first outreach effort for developing the Doheny Village revitalization plan being coordinated by Roma Design Group. Attendance exceeded 100 participants, including property owners, business representatives, residents, City leaders and the City’s Community Development staff. There was a great sense of community and excitement at the prospect of a revitalized Doheny Village. The valuable public comments will assist Roma Design Group as they proceed with alternative visions for the future of Doheny Village. Future steps will include public meetings with the Planning Commission and City Council to focus on this historic downtown area of Capistrano Beach. The City of Dana Point competed for and received a Sustainable Communities Planning Grant from the State of California to fund the Doheny Village Plan. Town Center Though not yet apparent on the streets, there has been a great deal of progress on improvement designs of the Town Center. Since adoption of the Town Center Plan by the City Council and subsequently by the California Coastal Commission, the City Council authorized a contract for design of Phase 1 Public Improvements, which is now complete. An Environmental Impact Report has recently been drafted for Phase 1 of the Public Improvements. Dana Point Harbor Revitalization The OC Dana Point Harbor Department has been busy moving forward on its revitalization plan. Recent milestones reached include architect selection for the landside improvements and environmental review for waterside improvements. Watch for Harbor Revitalization news and sign up for newsletter updates at the OC Dana Point Harbor Department website at www.ocdph.com. Connectivity Study – Tying It all Together The Doheny Village, Town Center and Dana Point Harbor areas are all expected to experience dramatic changes, improvements and popularity over the next decade. The Dana Point Connectivity Enhancement Study is intended to tie these all together through circulation improvement strategies to simplify pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular movement within these important areas within the City. The Connectivity Study is beginning this year as part of a Southern California Association of Governments Compass Blueprint grant.
