This international competition is the climax of a global specifically created for the event. They simultaneously climb an identical route on two event series. The event uniquely combines elite sports with live music, thereby turning a sides of the same boulder. The person who first stands upright on the super boulder will be crowned adidas ROCKSTAR 2019 and win 5.000 Euros. Climbing Meets Music

Nearly everyone has experienced the motivating power of music over our body and soul. Music can release emotions within seconds; the right beat encourages us to tap our feet or clap our hands; a familiar tune invites us to sing along. Music drives us and makes emotional moments unforgettable. It is no secret that many bouldering athletes name their routes after songs they listen to while working on a project.

Music is also an integral part of a good sporting event, because it puts heroes in the spotlight, creates excitement and entertains the crowd. Intoxicating music and a great atmosphere encourage athletes to compete at their physical best. For this reason, adidas ROCKSTARS combines high performance sport with live music, transforming a into an elaborately staged show. Pumped up by the beats of worldclass DJs Madame Electrifie, Prodeezy and the ROCKSTARS veterans DJ P., Chainsaw & Sungod the best climbers of the world will prove their skills.

Others, however, have to stay in top form for their next chance, the IFSC Combined Qualifier held in Toulouse in November.

Among the competitors of adidas ROCKSTARS 2019 are the defending champion Miho Nonaka (JPN) , the incredibly gifted (SLO) , who won this year’s overall bouldering world cup as well as a triple World Champion title (Boulder, Lead, Olympic Combined), the triple adidas ROCKSTAR Sean McColl (CAN) and the bouldering overall world cup winners of recent years, (GBR), (SLO) and J ong - won Chon (KOR).

TICKET TO ROCKSTARS FINAL PRESENTED BY GORE-TEX //////////////////////////////

Ticket to Rockstars is a stepping-stone for talented amateurs from all over the world. At the grand season’s final of the global adidas grassroots series enthusiastic hobby clim - bers can win a wildcard for the pro competition. A total of 130 participants (men and women) are permitted to this contest at the Porsche-Arena.

The participants of the Ticket to Rockstars Final include the winners of the global T2R event series who are travelling to Stuttgart from all over the world to experience the sin - gular atmosphere from the unique perspective of a pro athlete. For spectators, too, the T2R Final presented by GORE-TEX is an exciting competition as there are not only ambi - tious amateur climbers in the field – there might just be the next big bouldering star among the T2R participants.

This year, the group of T2R champions includes Oriane Bertone (FRA) – winner of T2R Paris/ Fontaineblau – who was the youngest climber ever to master a 8B+ problem, the young American talent Kylie Cullen (USA) who just beat adidas ROCKSTAR 2017, Alex Puccio, in the final of the Women Up climbing competition, as well as the multiple Euro - pean Youth Cup winner, Léo Favot (FRA) .

Like all other Ticket to Rockstars events, the final is run in a jam session format, which means the athletes must climb eight different boulder problems in a random order within a given time frame. The array of challenging problems built by the international route setter team is based on the qualification boulders of the pros. Therefore, taking part in the T2R event is always a special experience because average climbers don’t get to see such routes just any day.

The Ticket to Rockstars Final presented by GORE-TEX awards 6 wildcards to the adidas ROCKSTARS semi-final per category. The top 3 men and women of the T2R finalists (i.e. the T2R champions) and the top 3 men and women of the rest of the amateur field di - rectly enter the semi-final round of the pro competition on Saturday morning. There they compete alongside the top stars of the international bouldering circuit for a place in the adidas ROCKSTARS final. 45 6. ADIDAS ROCKSTARS BOULDER WALLS

The boulder walls and the super boulder have been built specifically for adidas ROCK - STARS. Thus, none of the athletes have an advantage in terms of experience. The set-up of the complex moduler starts one week prior to the event.

In collaboration with chief route setter Laurent Laporte and climbing wall manufacturer Benky Climbing a new state-of-the-art competition setup was created for this year’s event. It was the aim to create an aestatically appealing wall that features a “double sym - metry” of the super boulder , meaning symmetrical walls for the super finalists that also present an optical symmetry to the audience. With smart route setting the spectators can see one climber from behind and the other one in a side view. Another highlight are dual texture panels, i.e. parts of the wall are glossy and don’t offer any friction, which in - creases the difficulty for the climber.

7. ROUTE SETTERS //////////////////////////////////////

The quality of the routes is vital for a good competition. After all, adidas ROCKSTARS wants to highlight the skills of the international bouldering elite. At the same time, the route setters try to live up to the interests of spectators and the media. That asks for in - stinct feel.

Boulders have to be set in a fair way with equal opportunities for all athletes and they should challenge the climbers in any round of competition in a range of climbing skills and styles, typically including both power and strength, technique, balance, coordination and dynamic movements, but also less physical skills like tenacity, commitment and problem-solving. In the best of cases, only one athlete masters the most difficult pro - blem. But if the boulders are too tough, it could backfire. This is when the 100 years of competition experience of the adidas ROCKSTARS route setting team come into play.

Laurent „Larry“ Laporte (FRA) has been route setting for over 20 years.
