Golf & Food & Wine 4 Nights – North of Portugal Golf & Food & Wine 4 nights – North of Portugal 1st day Arrival at Porto International Airport The World Heritage city of Oporto is one of Europe's most fascinating but least known destinations. Check-In at The Yeatman Hotel Located in the heart of one of Europe's most important wine capitals, The Yeatman is a haven for wine lovers and the prime destination for those wishing to explore the pleasures of Port, the great classic wine for which the city of Porto is famous. The cellars of The Yeatman house one of the most comprehensive collections of Portuguese wines. The hotel has established partnerships with many of Portugal's finest producers who actively participate in The Yeatman's program of tastings, seminars and wine dinners. These partner wineries also sponsor individual rooms and suites. Intriguing pictures and objects provide insights into each winery's unique history and environment and add a discreet individual accent to each guest room. The wine theme extends to Caudalie Vinothérapie SPA with its exclusive skincare products and therapies using extracts from the vine. Guests are able to discuss Portuguese wines with the hotel's knowledgeable and friendly experts who are on hand to guide guests in their discovery of Portugal's diverse and individual wine regions, with their unique traditions and wealth of different styles. Dinner at Hotel Restaurant The Yeatman's Restaurant in Porto provides an environment of classic comfort, where discreet and understated service blends with the warm welcome for which Porto is famous. The spectacular panorama of the Douro River and the historic center of Porto form a stunning backdrop, and The Restaurant was awarded a Michelin Star in November 2011. Aiming to deliver the city's most inspiring dining experience, The Yeatman's restaurant in Oporto offers imaginative cuisine in which the traditional flavors of Portugal are interpreted and presented with contemporary flair. It showcases Portugal's huge range of fish and other fresh produce as well as its diversity of regional specialties. Listing a comprehensive choice of Portuguese wines, as well as a wide selection from other great vineyards around the globe, the restaurant makes a special feature of food and wine pairing. A program of tasting menus allows guests to discover a wealth of matching and contrasting flavors as they are taken on a journey through Portugal's diverse and varied wine regions. 2nd day Round at Estela Course Estela Golf course is a true links situated in magnificent facilities with 1st class and the climate cooled by the Atlantic breeze in summer and warmed by the Gulf Stream in winter. The type of grass, "Tifton Bermuda" on the fairways and "Penncross Bent" in greens, helps to create conditions for an excellent game with good fairways and greens firm and fast. Since the back tees, the Estela extends over almost 6300 meters (7000 yards), with one pair 72, a Course Rating of 72.7 and a slope rating of 131. Dinner in the City This restaurant is one of the most talked about eateries in Porto. Located just a stone’s throw from the heart of Foz do Douro and based on the renovation of an early-20th century house, contrasting sober and elegant decoration with bold, contemporary interior architecture. It is frequented by actors, musicians, politicians, designers and models as well as unknown figures. In other words, its broad clientele makes it one of the city’s most “in” places. It is divided into two rooms: the bar-cafeteria and the restaurant. The original, elegant cuisine is clearly international, but has Portuguese roots and a certain French and Italian influence. The surroundings are cosmopolitan, with well-planned lighting and a careful selection of music ranging from jazz and easy listening to classical music. 3rd day Historical Sightseeing of Oporto + Normal Visit to Real Companhia Velha Cellar Porto is the second largest city in Portugal. The history of Porto dates back to the 4th century, to the Roman occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, although Celtic and Proto-Celtic ruins have been discovered in several areas. The civic center of the city in the Central Baixa quarter with broad avenues lined with banks and outdoor cafes, not forgetting the two-tiered covered daily market. Merchants, ports and hinterlands. The building of sea-port structures in the Early Modern Porto Amândio Jorge Morais Barros * Working paper (please do not quote without permission) This article will focus on the history of relations between Porto and its hinterland between the end of the Middle Ages and throughout the Early Modern Times, and ex- amine the general conditions from which a jurisdictional kind of process generated an articulated economy. The proposal of analysis consists in demonstrate how, in the long- duration, several actions were directed from the city with the objective of extend and make effective its authority over the surrounding territory, and profiting from that. In these forewords it seems to me important to point-out some a few main ideas that will be developed in the chapters ahead, namely the territorial extension and the jurisdictional level of influence in a diachronic perspective, and the initiatives aiming its consolidation, the motivation of the whole plan and the evolution of the economic ties in the meantime established. The first-one underlines the fact that this was a fast and not by all means erratic process by which Porto achieved to control a vast territory around the city. The interven- tion over the hinterland was not an empirical attempt or a response to momentary neces- sities. It had a sense, a very concrete goal: it was thought and set in motion during me- dieval times in order to guarantee the survival in addition to the growth of city's wealth. After identifying the city's seating conditions – pretty much unfavourable 1 – the Town Hall members assumed a political speech next to the King justifying expansionist projects over the hinterland as a matter of survival 2.

Abstract: Geoengineering multidisciplinary approaches probably offer the best potential for reliable surface and groundwater studies and the assessment of the variability in geospatial parameters, such as, lithological heterogeneity, structural geology features and geomorphology of a specific site. The Porto City was built in the 12th century and has been developed on granitic hill slopes of the Douro riverside, and is one of the oldest cities in Europe. In the urban area of Porto City, the second most important city of the Portuguese mainland, there is a human population of about 1 million. Hydrogeological data acquisition in urban areas, in close connection with geological and geomorphological characteristics, is commonly, the key to predict the possible negative impacts of surface water / groundwater interaction. Most of the region is characterized by Variscan granitic rocks and a substratum of Upper Proterozoic and Palaeozoic metasedimentary rocks.

  • Participatory Democracy in Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by ResearchArchive at Victoria University of Wellington Participatory Democracy in Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte Terence Wood Participatory Democracy in Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte Terence Wood Victoria University of Wellington Wellington, New Zealand Contact: [email protected] Submitted in partial fulfilment of the Master of Development Studies Degree August, 2004 Abstract Participatory budgeting is a form of Participatory Democracy that is being increasingly used in Brazilian cities. This dissertation describes research conducted on the participatory budgets of two Brazilian cities, Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte. The research was undertaken with the overall aim of examining and comparing the participatory budgeting experiences in these two cities and then using this examination to identify the key local variables that can influence the outcomes of participatory budgets. The research made use of both primary and secondary data sources. The primary data used the result of 22 semi- structured interviews that took place in April and May 2004, and the secondary data was the already existing body of literature on participatory budgeting in Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte. The key findings of this research are that participatory budgeting has had some significant successes in both Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte. At the same time though the participatory budgets in Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte have encountered problems that have limited their abilities to produce results. There are also several areas where the outcomes of participatory budgeting are, at present, unclear. Some of the outcomes of the participatory budgets in Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte are very similar yet there were differences in the processes’ results.
