    October 2020 Message from the Chair Dear Colleague RTS PROGRAMME AWARDS 2021 I am delighted to be the new Chair of the RTS Programme Awards. These are one of the gold standard awards in our industry and are an important showcase of the extraordinary talent evident across all genres in British television. We have taken on board feedback from the industry following last year’s awards. Our aim, as ever, is to reflect the changing television landscape and to make sure the categories recognise the kinds of programmes and talent that make up today's schedules and the best content in Britain. Following discussions with judges and entering companies we have implemented the following changes: • Updated eligibility period: The eligibility period will now follow the calendar year. For this changeover year entries will be accepted from programmes broadcast between 1 November 2019 and 31 December 2020. Please refer to the Conditions of Entry for further details. Please be aware that in order to accommodate this change we will not be able to allow extensions to the entry deadlines. • Minimum duration: We have introduced a minimum duration of 10 minutes (with the maximum duration still 15 minutes) for all performance categories • Comedy Entertainment: We have introduced a new Comedy Entertainment category alongside the existing Entertainment category. • Allocation of entries: in the genre and writing categories we will now limit the number of entries per category by broadcaster rather than by channel. Details of the new limit can be found within the description of each category. Entries in the performance categories remain at 5 per channel.

We were very worried at the beginning of the year, so we cut our planned expenditure and were rigorous about cost control. I am so touched that despite the economic conditions, our supporters have come through for us and donations actually increased. Our overall income was hit by reduced legacies, but we ended the year in a far better financial position than I could possibly have hoped. Thank you all so much. This will help us in 2010, which is looking to be just as turbulent – as I write this sterling is plummeting and problems in Europe are creating new worries. Although we cut back somewhat on our spending in 2009, we reached more people than ever before in terms of those we screened and treated, and trained far more eye health workers than in any other year. We are determined to make long lasting change – strengthening the health systems in countries where we work so that eye health services will be embedded and will endure. I visited a number of our programmes this year and am always impressed by the dedication of our staff and our partners – at a time of great uncertainty they work hard to improve the lives of some of the most marginalised people in the world.

    PRESS RELEASE Shakespeare’s Globe announces full casting for Christmas at the (Snow) Globe by Sandi Toksvig and Jenifer Toksvig 23 October 2019 The Globe Theatre stands empty, the stage left bare, the Christmas tree undecorated and we need your help. Someone has stolen the Magic of Christmas from Snowdrop, the fairy who stands watch during the winter months, protecting our great wooden ‘O’. So gather everyone you know to help comedian Sandi Toksvig and her merry gang find the spirit of Christmas and return it to The Globe. Shakespeare’s Globe is delighted to announce the full company for Christmas at the (Snow) Globe, created and directed by Sandi Toksvig and Jenifer Toksvig, and designed by Charlie Cridlan. Opening on Thursday 19 December, this brand new production will invite audiences to pack into the open-air theatre wrapped in their warmest Christmas jumpers and let loose their Christmas spirit. To celebrate the spirit of storytelling and the joy of gift-giving, audience members will also be invited to bring a new children’s book to put under the 13-foot Christmas tree on the Globe stage. Books will be donated to children’s charities across Southwark. The Globe Christmas tree has been kindly donated by the Embassy of Denmark, London. The production will feature integrated BSL, and in a Globe first, will include a touch and scent tour for visually impaired patrons ahead of the Audio Described performance on Saturday 21 December. The cast will comprise: Becky Barry: Becky returns to the Globe stage having previously worked on the Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank productions of Much Ado about Nothing and Romeo and Juliet.

This impact has been felt by all - and particularly by children who have now had several months of at-home learning. In this context, media activities have become an even more important part of children’s lives; allowing them to connect with peers, explore their interests, learn about the world and stay entertained from the confines of their homes. This is the seventh wave of the Children’s Media Lives study. This longitudinal study of children’s digital media use started in 2014. Since then, each year we’ve tracked the online behaviours and experiences of 18 children aged between eight and 18. Interviewing these children annually has allowed us to gain insight into how different factors affect children’s media use, including age, family, social life and society as a whole.
