Drama on 4 and Walter Presents Sponsorship Opportunity Jan-Dec 2021 a Word from Channel 4’S Head of Drama Drama on 4 and Walter Presents Sponsorship Opportunity Jan-Dec 2021 A word from Channel 4’s head of Drama We are so excited to be back in production with a raft of brilliant new dramas. Highlights will include IT’S A SIN by Russell T Davies starring Keeley Hawes and Olly Alexander (lead singer of Years and Years) – an outspoken, entertaining and heart-breaking drama about a gang of friends living it up in London in the 80s, against the backdrop of the HIV epidemic. We also have the 4th series of ACKLEY BRIDGE, returning with a new cast, and a brand new 30’ format to better reflect the way young people consume TV. BEFORE WE DIE, starring Lesley Sharpe is an edge-of-your-seat police thriller about a female police officer whose son goes undercover in a dangerous crime family - a remake of the highly successful Swedish series. But the jewel in the crown is 90s set true crime drama MY NAME IS LIZZIE starring Niamh Algar and Eddie Marsan, a series about the botched investigation into the murder of Rachel Nickell. CLOSE TO ME, starring Connie Nielson and Christopher Eccleston, a psychological thriller about a woman who must piece together the truth of the last missing year of her life after a fall down the stairs (or was she pushed?) Finally we’ve got the first terrestrial UK broadcast of THE GREAT, starring Elle Fanning and ex-Skins star Nicholas Hoult, a high-octane, outrageous, feminist take on the young life of Catherine the Great, by the writer of The Favourite. The series has been a big hit in the US on Hulu. These dramas are bold, fearless and all have something to say about who we are today. But they are also hooky and entertaining, with recognisable stars. Audiences are incredibly important to us at Channel 4 and our ambition is to make a splash! Caroline Hollick. Head of Drama, Channel 4 Why Drama on 4 and Walter Presents? • Content attracting a desirable audience. • More upmarket than commercial TV average. • Delivering scale. • Predicted to reach almost 30million Adults in 2021. • Consistent presence throughout the year. • Across Channel 4, More 4, E4 and All 4. • Huge names. C4 Peak From multi-award winning writer Russell T. Davies (Queer As Folk), Its a sin follows the story of the 1980’s, the story of AIDS and the story of 3 friends across the decade. Unsurprisingly, Russell has assembled an all star cast, including Steven Fry, Olly Alexander, Neil Patrick Harris and Keeley Hawes. It’s 1981, the start of a new decade and Ritchie (Alexander), Roscoe and Colin begin a new life in London. Strangers at first, these young gay lads, and their best friend Jill, find themselves thrown together, and soon share each other’s adventures. But a new virus is on the rise, and soon their lives will be tested in ways they never imagined. As the decade passes, and they grow up in the shadow of AIDS, they’re determined to live and love more fiercely than ever. Programming is confidential and subject to change The Great 9x60. C4 Peak The Great is a satirical, comedic drama about the rise of Catherine the Great from outsider to the longest reigning female ruler in Russia’s history. It’s modern love story that incorporates historical facts, occasionally. It is the fictionalised, fun and anachronistic story of an idealistic, romantic young girl (Elle Fanning), who arrives in Russia for an arranged marriage to the mercurial Emperor Peter (Nicholas Hoult). Hoping for love and sunshine, she finds instead a dangerous, depraved, backward world that she resolves to change. All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military and get the court onside. Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow complete the cast. Programming is confidential and subject to change Click logo to Play Ramy 9x30. C4 Peak Starring stand up comedian Ramy Youseff as the main protagonist, Ramy is a first generation Egyptian- American who is on a spiritual journey in his politically-divided New Jersey neighbourhood. Ramy will bring a new perspective to our screens as it explores the challenges of what it’s like being caught between a Muslim community that thinks life is a moral test and a millennial generation that thinks life has no consequences. Programming is confidential and subject to change Ackley Bridge 10x30. C4 Peak Series 4 will return in a new format of 10x30 – launching around the back to school period after the Easter half term in April 2021. Nas is still coming to terms with the death of her best friend Poppy. With series 3 ending as she was leaving Ackley Bridge for Oxford University, after a sudden intervention meant her original rejection from the University was overturned. Programming is confidential and subject to change I Am… 3x60. C4 Peak ‘I Am…’ are one off stories that explore the experience of three women in moments. Each episode of the three-part series will be developed and written by Dominic Savage in collaboration with the leading actor – for whom, in each case, the story will have personal resonance. This will be an authentic and thought-provoking series exploring contemporary female experiences and themes, including trust, relationships and mental health. Featuring improvised dialogue, the trilogy will draw these deeply personal themes out through moments of emotion, intimacy and anxiety. The 2021 stories will be written and starred by Suranne Jones, Letitia Wright and Jodie Whittaker. Programming is confidential and subject to change The Handmaid’s Tale 10x60. C4 Peak The multi-award winning, international smash hit, The Handmaid’s Tale will return for a 4th series in 2021. Elisabeth Moss will reprise her mesmerising role of June Osbourne following the explosive ending to series 3, which saw June help dozens of children, Marthas and Handmaids escape. Whilst she didn’t leave herself, she may now be in the perfect position to take Gilead down from in the inside. Programming is confidential and subject to change My name is Lizzie 4x60. C4 Peak Channel 4 has commissioned My Name is Lizzie, a new 4X60 drama written by Emilia di Girolamo (The Tunnel) and examines the high-pressure investigation into the devastating murder of Rachel Nickell in 1992. Examining the complicated and toxic sexual politics of the early ‘90s and the police’s obsession with the wrong man, My Name is Lizzie enters a dysfunctional world, where a female undercover officer, codename ‘Lizzie James’, is asked to become sexual bait for a suspected killer Programming is confidential and subject to change Close to me 6x60. C4 Peak Close to Me is the first fruit from NENT Studios UK’s content deal with The Development Partnership (TDP), which was created to make high-end dramas for the international market. The adaptation comes from author Amanda Reynolds’s 2017 novel and follows a woman who slowly realises her seemingly perfect life may not have been all it seemed after losing a year’s worth of memories following a fall. Danish actress Connie Nielsen (Wonder Woman) will play the lead role, with Christopher Eccelstone (Doctor Who; The A Word) playing her husband. • Keeley Hawes, Philip Glenister, Dean Andrews, Marshall Lancaster, Montserrat Lombard
Ashes to Ashes (DVD) Talent: Keeley Hawes, Philip Glenister, Dean Andrews, Marshall Lancaster, Montserrat Lombard. Director: Johnny Campbell, Bille Eltringham Classification: M (Mature) Duration: 516 minutes (including 8 episodes) We rate it: Five stars. Date of review: 22nd October, 2009 Several years ago, audiences in both the UK and Australia were introduced to the wondrous BBC drama Life on Mars. Taking its name from a David Bowie song, Life on Mars followed the intriguing exploits of a 2006 Manchester cop, Sam Tyler, (played by the wonderful John Simm) who was hit by a car and seemingly sent back in time to 1973. The show functioned as a compelling psychological thriller, following Tyler’s efforts to discover what had sent him back in time (was he in a coma, dying, dreaming, or in some kind of limbo-land or Purgatory?) and his attempts to escape 1973 and get back to his life in 2006. At the same time, the show was a loving and at times hilarious re-creation of the 1970s British cop-show milieu (think of The Sweeney crossed with The Professionals, but shot with today’s filmmaking technology), and it featured the wonderful Philip Glenister as the now-iconic DCI Gene Hunt, a politically- incorrect, hilariously foul-mouthed and utterly lovable character who infuriated Tyler as often as he helped him in his various quests. Life on Mars was a critical and commercial hit, and it spawned a tremendously effective second series. The characters central to Life on Mars were both sympathetic and fascinating, the writing and direction of the episodes occasionally awe-inspiring, and the mystery at the heart of the entire show was brilliantly handled to the very end.

  • The Position Is Looking Forward to Welcoming Into Its Lively, Talented and Active Family a Priest-In-Charge to Lead Us with New Vision to a Revival
All Saints’ Church, Halifax, The Position is looking forward to welcoming into its lively, talented and active family a priest-in-charge to lead us with new vision to a revival. Wordcloud of responses to a recent Congregational Survey asking which are the most important qualities expected of a new priest Page 2 The Prospects All Saints’ has spent some time learning, reflecting and praying on the theory of growth in terms of our relationships with God, with each other and with People Out There. There has been a certain amount of progress, particularly in discipleship so that a number of people have stepped forward to take up positions of responsibility with aptitude and enthusiasm. The pastoral care related to this activity is an important consideration going forward. There is great enthusiasm for continuing to develop discipleship; and we seek to grow in numbers, faith and finances with new leadership from an incoming priest-in-charge. Having spent much time and effort on developing a Welcome Garden, which should have been officially opened in May 2020, the church needs someone who can enthusiastically lead forward the detailed and widespread programme of events and projects a dedicated team has put in place. With this we hope to encourage the community into our precincts with an intention of leading them a step further into our church building and our church family. The enthusiasm and commitment shown over the past few years for the Welcome Garden Project and the keen interest in seeing it used, reveals an eagerness to reach out into the surrounding area.
