In 2009 this program evolved into WorldCoaches. With a new name came a focus on combining football training with developing life skills to empower young people and their community. Who can become a WorldCoach? Absolutely any man or woman, from physical education teachers to former professional football players, community workers and volunteers. Since 2009 we have successfully trained 9,000 WorldCoaches in over 20 countries, including Kenya, Mozambique, Ghana, South Africa, Indonesia, Netherlands Antilles and Suriname. With the program’s ‘Coach the Coach’ philosophy, we hope to ensure a strong, sustainable local network of community coaches across the world. Football coaching focuses on simplifying the game and creating a safe sports environment. The structure for the life skills training is set by a manual we developed with Utrecht University, which serves as a constant reference for every WorldCoach. Practical workshops are also provided to instruct the coaches in their responsibilities as a role model. Using the “Realize, Analyse, Act” principle, the WorldCoaches are trained in critical thinking and equipped with the tools and skills to adjust and apply the manual’s principles to the local context. The two components are united when the WorldCoach incorporates the life skills tools and training into the football activities. 12 13 WORLDCOACHES WORLD MAP , WORLDCOACHES SINCE , COACHING CERTIFICATES 23% 77% CHILDREN 16 17 AMBASSADORS Michael Essien & Tarik Oulida | Aron Winter | Daniel Amokachi | Francis Kimanzi | Johan Neeskens | Gilanne Louwaars | Ghana & Morocco The Netherlands Nigeria Kenya The Netherlands The Netherlands Hatem Trabelsi | Khalid Sinouh & Nourdin Louis van Gaal | Kalusha Bwalya | Pierre van Hooijdonk | Eric Tinkler | Tunisia Boukhari | Morocco The Netherlands Zambia The Netherlands South Africa Manuel (Tico Tico) Bucuane | Nwankwo Kanu | Ruud Krol | Regi Blinker | Ruud Gullit | Anthony Baffoe | Mozambique Nigeria The Netherlands The Netherlands The Netherlands Ghana 18 19 WORLDCOACHES Ailton Vicente | Moacyz Pedro de Souza | Salim Ali | Nuno do Rosario | Mory Sanou | Kenneth Jaliens | Brazil Brazil Kenya Mozambique Burkina Faso Suriname Pham Ti Ngoc | Martha Karimi | Maria Indira Zevallos Rodrigues | Etienne Siliee | Ajay Shetty | John Sibeko | Vietnam Kenya Peru Curacao India South Africa Delano Baal | Aicha Ndiaye | Stanley Okumbi | Kimberly Miranda | Seth Oduor | Clelio Donizeti Silvia | Suriname Senegal Kenya India Kenya Brazil 20 21 WorldCoach Martha gives instructions | Ethiopia SDGs Teamwork is one of the essential lessons that WorldCoaches pass on to their players.
