Topic #2: What are the Nephilim in Genesis 6?

1When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years." 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown (Gen 6:1-4)

3 Main Views:

1) Sons of God = Offspring of ______

Daughters of Men = Offspring of ______“Nephilim” are offspring of this unholy union

2) Sons of God = Powerful ______

Daughters of Men = Weaker ______“Nephilim” are their offspring

3) Sons of God = ______

Daughters of Men = ______“Nephilim” are hybrid offspring

Evidence:

“Nephilim” = ______(literal meaning of the Hebrew word)

- Several texts that connect angelic sin with sex and Noah (2 Pt 2:4-5, Jd 6-7)

Difficulties with the Third View:

Matthew 22:30

- One more passage to consider: Matthew 24:37
