The Italian Company has achieved ‘en plein’ in Formula One, triumphing in all 19 races of World Championship, thanks to 16 victories reached by Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, winner of Constructors World Championship, and 3 victories obtained by Red Bull Racing team. In detail, 11 are the successes achieved by Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team), winner of Drivers World Championship, 5 the ones reached by Nico Rosberg (Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team) and 3 are Daniel Ricciardo’s victories (Red Bull Racing). Andrea Dovizioso forced to retire after a crash. Two weeks after his Mugello triumph, Jorge Lorenzo today made it two in a row by winning the Catalan GP at the Montmeló circuit. The rider from Mallorca, who started from pole, moved into the lead of the race on lap 2 when he passed Marquez, and then firmly held onto that position right until the chequered flag, finishing over four seconds ahead of his Honda rival. It was an unfortunate race for Andrea Dovizioso, who also started from the front row after going third-quickest in qualifying yesterday. The Italian crashed under braking for Turn 5 when he was in third and had to retire. Lorenzo has now moved up to seventh place in the overall standings on 66 points, followed by Dovizioso with the same haul, while Ducati now lie second overall in the Constructors´ championship with 132 points. The next race of the MotoGP World Championship will be in the Netherlands, in two weeks time, at the Assen circuit for the Dutch TT from 29th June to 1st July. PRESS RELEASE Stezzano, Italy, 31st July 2018 BREMBO CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF WINNING IN MOTOGP August 20,1978 marked the first victory in the 500CC Class of the two-wheeled World Championship with Brembo brakes. Today, after 40 years, Brembo counts 472 victories in 500/MotoGP and is the choice of 100% of the riders. August 20th marks the 40th anniversary of Brembo's first victory in the premier class of the MotoGP World Championship. On August 20,1978 Virginio Ferrari, riding a Suzuki RG500 for the Gallina team, won the 500 class at the West German Grand Prix on the legendary 22.835 km Nürburgring circuit. At that time, Brembo had just a 100 employees and the unofficial Suzuki driven by Virginio Ferrari, in what was the premier class, the "500cc Class", had Brembo 2-piston calipers 38 mm Gold Series, an axial pump Brembo 15.87 and 2 front discs, also Brembo, in 280 mm cast iron. Today, Brembo has over 10,000 employees, the brake discs used in MotoGP are carbon also with rain conditions, and the victories accumulated in the 500/MotoGP class, as of July 30, 2018 are 472. The last victory of a bike without Brembo brakes in the premier class of the world championship dates back to May 21, 1995. Notwithstanding Brembo brakes are not imposed by regulation, in the last 23 years all the best riders have always chosen Brembo brake systems, with the awareness that to go fast you also have to brake hard. MANAGEMENT, TEAM & RIDERS PROFILE 1 Dato’ Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali Team Principal Razlan Razali (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 1972) has been one of the main catalysts to the booming popularity of motorcycle racing in Malaysia and South East Asia in recent years. Razlan’s career has been dedicated to the development of motorsport in his country, coming up with new business ventures and strategies to help improve the conditions of the sport. In October 2008 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Sepang International Circuit, since which time he has further enhanced the good name of the track and motorsport. His work has not only been to make Sepang one of the most internationally recognised and decorated circuits, evidenced by the award for MotoGP Best Grand Prix 2012 and 2017, but he has also been a pioneer in using this platform to support motorcycling in Malaysia in all aspects and disciplines. Razlan’s first great achievement in the world of two wheels was to have two home riders competing in the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2009, which was an historic moment for the nation. Since then there has constantly been a full-time Malaysian rider contesting at least one of the categories within the MotoGP World Championship, with the trailblazing Zulfahmi Khairuddin as the reference point. The second big milestone came in 2015 with the creation of the SIC Racing Team in Moto3, achieving two podium finishes in its first season. In 2018 the team was extended to include Moto2 and in 2019 it took the big step up to the premier class.
