Team Points the High Point University men’s basketball team. The Panthers 1. Winthrop (30) 300 posted their second-straight 20-win season in 2015-16, going 2. Liberty 236 21-11, and claimed their fourth-straight Big South regular season 3. UNC Asheville 227 title with a 13-5 conference record. Unfortunately, a series of 4. Gardner-Webb 218 injuries late in the season (John Brown, Adam Weary) left HPU 5. High Point 182 shorthanded and eventual champion UNC Asheville eliminated 6. Radford 128 the Panthers from the Big South Tournament in the semifinals. 7. Charleston So. (1) 121 Despite the loss to Asheville, the Panthers still qualified 8. Campbell 101 for the postseason for the fourth-straight season. HPU made 9. Longwood 82 its second appearance in the NIT in three seasons and faced off 10. Presbyterian College 55 with the South Carolina Gamecocks in the first round. High Point graduated the all-time winningest class in (first place votes in parentheses) program history, including All-American John Brown. In addition to Brown, the Panthers also saw Adam Weary, Lorenzo Preseason Cugini and Haiishen McIntyre finish their careers in 2015-16. All-Conference “This is going to be a group effort this season,” head coach Scott Cherry said. “The one thing everyone keeps saying is that First Team this is a rebuilding year and I don’t think that is an appropriate Keon Johnson, Winthrop term. Rebuilding means it gets demolished and you have to start Miles Bowman Jr. Tyrell Nelson, Gardner-Webb from scratch. I look at this season as a new opportunity for a Xavier Cooks, Winthrop bunch of guys that have waited for this chance. Nobody is going Chris Clemons, Campbell to replace John Brown or Adam Weary, but collectively I think we can have a lot more balanced stat sheet across the board. It is home games in 2016-17. John Dawson, Liberty going to be a fun year. We will have some bumps and obstacles “I think we have a great group this year,” Cherry said. Second-Team come our way, but I love this team’s collective identity.” “Every team is different personality wise but we have a bunch of guys who are grateful for the opportunity that they have. Ahmad Thomas, UNC Asheville The Panthers return one starter this season in senior guard We have guys assuming new roles and they are excited about Armel Potter, Charleston So. Anthony Lindauer. The sharpshooter played in 32 games with 23 starts as a junior and is the leading returning scorer after the chance to produce more. They are looking forward to the Kevin Vannatta, UNC Asheville challenge and embracing it. We also have a new group of guys Miles Bowman Jr., High Point averaging 8.3 points per game. He shot 40.8 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from behind the arc and was second on the coming in who have the opportunity to see minutes. This is a Ed Polite Jr., Radford team with 45 three-pointers. The senior is joined by a talented receptive group that is listening, learning and trying to do exactly group of returners
