Mar 09, 2011 10:27 +08 ROB COLLINS - 5 May 2011 Rob Collins completed against 700 other applicants, won the hearts of the guest panel and audience, and emerged as the winner in the Sky Television Show hosted by Garry Bushell. Rob got his first break in the music industry when he competed against 700 other applicants responding to an advertisement in The Sun newspaper, to appear on a Sky Television Show hosted by Garry Bushell in 1996. He won the show by an overwhelming audience majority vote. The guest panel on the show consisted of Malandra Burrows (Emmerdale), comedian and presenter Bob Mills and former manager of The Pet Shop Boys, East 17 and Bros, Tom Watkins. They raved about his performance, Malandra Burrows “Fabulous choice of song, you’ve sent shivers down my spine. I’ve fallen in love...” Bob Mills “He stepped on the stage and it was like watching a young Elvis! You’re in there son!” Tom Watkins “I think he has one of the finest voices I’ve heard in a long time.” The show led to work at Comfort's Place Studios with famous producer/songwriter Andy Hill (Co-writer of Think Twice by Celine Dion, Heart of Stone by Cher. In April of 1997 Garry Bushell named Rob as his “Tip For The Top” in his column in The Sun national newspaper. In December of 1997, Rob began working with Josh Phillips (keyboards/Programming for Allisha’s Attic, Big Country, Midge Ure, Leo Sayer) and Mark Brzezicki (Drummer/Writer for Big Country, The Cult, Phill Collins, Prince’s Trust Concerts). Along with Tim Renwick (Guitarist for Pink Floyd and Mike and the Mechanics) they recorded three original tracks at Blaze Music studios, London WC1 In 2000 rob started to work with Ben Copeland (many credits including tracks on Aaron Carter’s US smash album and a runner up entry in the 2002 Euro Song Contest.) This gave Rob the chance to ‘demo’ songs for record companies and has produced three new tracks (one a duet), including one used as a demo for S Club 7. Then, in Summer 2002, it was the US citizens turn to see what rob had to offer, when he performed for the second time at Graceland Crossing, opposite Elvis Presley's home, 'Graceland' in Memphis, TN, USA. Big Country Book of Lyrics Was Originally Offered Online As a PDF File on a Web Site That Later Grew Into the Current Steeltown Site
D e s i g n e d b y R o b e r t O l i v e r Introduction Project History The Big Country Book of Lyrics was originally offered online as a PDF file on a web site that later grew into the current Steeltown site. Since I had not been pleased with the formatting restrictions of HTML, I had decided to create a file in Adobe PageMaker and then convert it into a PDF (Portable Document Format) file. This format allows complete control over layout and typography, but can result in very large files. Although PDF files are relatively small compared to their original documents (all of the original PageMaker files for this book total over 18 megabytes), a project as large and comprehensive as the Big Country Book of Lyrics results in an appropriately hefty PDF file. Even though I have since converted all lyrics to HTML and incorporated them into the Steeltown web site, the PDF version is still a handy and useful resource, especially when printed and bound for reference. As ubiquitous as the world wide web has become, a printed version of the Book of Lyrics is easier on the eyes, quicker to thumb through, and does not require an internet connection. SIMON TOWNHEND Was Born with Music in His Blood, the Son Of
SIMON TOWNSHEND was born with music in his blood, the son of England’s top big-band reed man, Cliff Townshend, and younger brother of The Who legend Pete Townshend, Simon has been recording and performing since the age of nine, when he was recruited to add vocals to The Who classic Tommy. Although the Townshend name is familiar, Simon’s music has its own original sound and his song writing, plunders great depths and reruns with unique compelling narratives set against haunting melodies. Simon has a strong loyal fan base which includes a number of fellow musicians such as Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), who has followed Simon since his 1983 release ‘I Am The Answer’. Simon, a multi instrumentalist and singer, has released 8 acclaimed solo albums and one with the band Casbah Club (featuring Bruce Foxton/The Jam & Mark Brzezicki/Big Country), these all on his US label STIR MUSIC. Simon has now launched his own label in the UK, STIR RECORDS and will be releasing re mastered versions of his last two US releases, LOOKING OUT LOOKING IN and DENIAL with bonus tracks, later in 2016. Both these albums, well received when originally released in the US, contain some of Simon’s most personal and inspirational work to date.
