SOF Mobility listings also encompass both air (fixed-wing/rotary-wing/ military free-fall) and maritime (surface and sub-surface) environments. In the case of SOF Warrior, the book provides detailed information on more than 200 systems, spanning assault rifles and shotguns, sniper rifles, handguns and personal defence weapons (PDWs), visual augmentation and suppressors. Within each of these areas, the SOF community is developing or has fielded a range of unique systems, from long-range sniper rifle differences between .338 Lapua and .338 Norma Magnum calibres to ‘subsonic’ capabilities of some short-range handguns and PDWs. Other examples of systems designed to meet identified SOF needs can be found in the SRSE section, where more than 80 highlighted systems cover areas like communications and electronic intelligence, direction- finding, and both communications and IED jamming systems. Shephard looks forward to the development of an expanded SOEH over the next 12 months. There is no charge for product listings, so if you or your company would like to suggest new equipment or provide more in-depth data, contact us at [email protected]. In the meantime, we hope that you will also explore potential synergies by joining the ongoing community discussion occurring on the pages of SOF magazine. • Rostec to Start Developing 3 Generation Combat Gear in 2020 June 26, 2019 Press Release JSC Tsniitochmash (Part of Rostec) Plans
Rostec to start developing 3rd generation combat gear in 2020 June 26, 2019 Press release JSC TsNIITochMash (part of Rostec) plans to start R&D work of new third generation combat gear for the military in 2020. This new equipment, replacing the Ratnik combat gear, will be called Sotnik. The new gear will include anti-mine boots, an anti-thermal suit hiding the soldier from infrared sensors and anti-radar camouflage suit. Other plans include introducing a tactical system using micro UAVs, where the camera stream from the UAV will be projected to the helmet’s visor or separate goggles. The electric goggles can also be used to display tactical orders, maps of the area, etc. “According to our plans, the third generation gear Sotnik will replace Ratnik already in 2025. This will be fundamentally new kind of equipment integrating the best high-tech designs of Russian enterprises, including those of Rostec. Thanks to the use of innovative materials and combining the functions of individual elements, the weight of the set will be reduced by 20%, amounting to about 20 kilograms”, said Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov. Sotnik will use a “chameleon” material that can be controlled with voltage — a joint design by TsNIITochMash and the Roselectronics holding company. This electrochromic material can change its color depending on the masked surface and its environment. A helmet with this kind of unique coating was demonstrated for the first time at the ARMY-2018 forum. Rostec has been supplying the Russian army with a 2nd generation Ratnik combat gear since 2014. This gear consists of five integrated systems: life-support, control and communications, combat, protection and energy supply.

CHAPTER 5 suggested citation: Medrano-Bigas, Pau. The Forgotten Years of Bibendum. Michelin’s American Period in Milltown: Design, Illustration and Advertising by Pioneer Tire Companies (1900-1930). Doctoral dissertation. University of Barcelona, 2015 [English translation, 2018]. THE TROJAN HORSE: IMPORTED AUTOMOBILES In the last two decades of the nineteenth century, the furor for bicycles as a personal and economical means of transport led to the invasion of the French market by English and American firms—leading to fierce commercial competition with the country’s own industries—resulting in the collapse of 1898. In the early stages of the new century the full development of the European automobile industry and in particular the French sector—with the inseparable development of the tire—produced a similar effect. However, this time it was the American market that was invaded by imported European vehicles, pre- dominantly from France. 1. Transatlantic travel on wheels Between 1890 and 1891 the first French vehicles marketed by Peugeot—one of the major bicycle manu- facturers—and Panhard et Levassor, appeared on the scene and incorporated the internal combustion engine developed by the German Gottlieb Daimler. French and German investments in technology, which would be imposed on the rest, was based on gasoline-powered engines and collided with the English and North American options, diversified between vapor, electric and gas-powered automobiles. Production data from the United States in 1899 show that there were 2,500 vehicles—about 80% of which used electric or steam engines—manufactured by around 30 companies. Between 1900 and 1901, France was by far the world’s largest automobile producer.

  • Assault Weapon" Myths
Campbell University School of Law Scholarly Repository @ Campbell University School of Law Scholarly Works Faculty Scholarship 2018 "Assault Weapon" Myths E. Gregory Wallace Follow this and additional works at: https://scholarship.law.campbell.edu/fac_sw Part of the Second Amendment Commons “ASSAULT WEAPON” MYTHS E. Gregory Wallace Scary black rifles that spray bullets like machine guns. Military arms designed solely for killing on the battlefield. Weapons of choice for mass shooters. These are common descriptions of so-called “assault weapons,” a favorite target for those who want to eliminate gun violence by eliminating guns. Several states and localities currently ban “assault weapons,” as did the federal government from 1994-2004. In response to recent mass shootings, bills have been introduced in Congress to create a new national ban. Lawmakers and judges often use these descriptions to justify such bans. But are the descriptions factual? If not, what does that say about the laws and court decisions that rely on them? While there is no generally agreed-upon definition of “assault weapon,” laws banning such weapons typically criminalize possession or transfer of semiautomatic rifles with detachable magazines and at least one specified feature such as a pistol grip, telescoping stock, flash suppressor, barrel shroud, bayonet mount, or grenade launcher.1 Other “assault weapon” bans prohibit certain semiautomatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols by name and by features, along with any copies, duplicates, or variants.2 The main target of these bans is the AR-15 rifle, the most popular rifle in America, owned by millions for lawful purposes including self-defense.3 The AR-15 looks like a fully automatic military M4 carbine or M16 rifle, but it has a semiautomatic firing system like most modern handguns.
