  • Teacher Notes
Media Series - TV Teacher Notes Television in the Global Age Teachers’ Notes The resources are intended to support teachers delivering on the new AS and A level specifications. They have been created based on the assumption that many teachers will already have some experience of teaching Media Studies and therefore have been pitched at a level which takes this into consideration. Other resources are readily available which outline e.g. technical and visual codes and how to apply these. There is overlap between the different areas of the theoretical framework and the various contexts, and a “text-out” teaching structure may offer opportunities for a more holistic approach. Slides are adaptable to use with your students. Explanatory notes for teachers/suggestions for teaching are in the Teachers’ Notes. The resources are intended to offer guidance only and are by no means exhaustive. It is expected that teachers will subsequently research and use their own materials and teaching strategies within their delivery. Television as an industry has changed dramatically since its inception. Digital technologies and other external factors have led to changes in production, distribution, the increasingly global nature of television and the ways in which audiences consume texts. It is expected that students will require teacher-led delivery which outlines these changes, but the focus of delivery will differ dependent on texts chosen. THE JINX: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst Episode Suggestions Episode 1 ‘The Body in the Bay’ is the ‘set’ text but you may also want to look at others, particularly Episode 6 with its “shocking” conclusion.

This critically acclaimed, powerful companion piece to the Oscar®-nominated The Act of Killing, follows a family of survivors of the Indonesian genocide who discover how their son was murdered and the identities of the killers. Also announced in the ceremony was the Best Short Award, which honored LAST DAY OF FREEDOM, directed by Dee Hibbert-Jones and Nomi Talisman. The film is an animated account of Bill Babbitt’s decision to support and help his brother in the face of war, crime and capital execution. Grammy-nominated comedian Tig Notaro hosted the ceremony, which gathered the documentary community to honor the best nonfiction films and programming of 2015. IDA’s Career Achievement Award was presented to Gordon Quinn, Founder and Artistic Director of Kartemquin Films. MONDAY JANUARY 28, 2019 50 BULLS | 45 FEMALES Welcome! Welcome to our 9th Annual Sale! 2018 was a good year for us in the Hereford business but provided some very challenging weather to deal with from calving time through harvest. We certainly hope that 2019 gets back to more normal conditions! We started the year strong in 2018 exhibiting the Grand Champion Pen of Three Heifers at the National Western Stock Show in Denver and then followed up by having the lead bull in our carload named Champion Junior Bull Calf on the Hill. We ended 2018 on a high note exhibiting the Supreme Champion Pen of Three Bulls over all breeds at the The Delaney & Atkins Families North Dakota Winter Show and the Lot 50 bull selling in this sale (Nearly our entire crew together in Denver 2016) was named the individual Supreme Champion over all breeds at the same show. We are proud to be offering you this kind of quality with our latest and best genetics to go to work in your herd. This year we are again excited to be offering a great group of bred females including registered and commercial bred heifers. Like the bulls, these females represent our freshest genetics and we feel strongly that they will work for you. Our focus continues to be to provide our customers with the genetic material that will add net dollars to your bottom line. Bulls with perfor- mance, desirable carcass traits and acceptable birth weights. Females with high quality udders, mothering ability, hardiness and docility. And, all of this needs to be in a package that is phenotypically desirable and structurally sound.

  • Producers of Popular Science Web Videos – Between New Professionalism and Old Gender Issues
Producers of Popular Science Web Videos – Between New Professionalism and Old Gender Issues Jesús Muñoz Morcillo1*, Klemens Czurda*, Andrea Geipel**, Caroline Y. Robertson-von Trotha* ABSTRACT: This article provides an overview of the web video production context related to science communication, based on a quantitative analysis of 190 YouTube videos. The authors explore the main characteristics and ongoing strategies of producers, focusing on three topics: professionalism, producer’s gender and age profile, and community building. In the discussion, the authors compare the quantitative results with recently published qualitative research on producers of popular science web videos. This complementary approach gives further evidence on the main characteristics of most popular science communicators on YouTube, it shows a new type of professionalism that surpasses the hitherto existing distinction between User Generated Content (UGC) and Professional Generated Content (PGC), raises gender issues, and questions the participatory culture of science communicators on YouTube. Keywords: Producers of Popular Science Web Videos, Commodification of Science, Gender in Science Communication, Community Building, Professionalism on YouTube Introduction Not very long ago YouTube was introduced as a platform for sharing videos without commodity logic. However, shortly after Google acquired YouTube in 2006, the free exchange of videos gradually shifted to an attention economy ruled by manifold and omnipresent advertising (cf. Jenkins, 2009: 120). YouTube has meanwhile become part of our everyday experience, of our “being in the world” (Merleau Ponty) with all our senses, as an active and constitutive dimension of our understanding of life, knowledge, and communication. However, because of the increasing exploitation of private data, some critical voices have arisen arguing against the production and distribution of free content and warning of the negative consequences for content quality and privacy (e.g., Keen, 2007; Welzer, 2016).
