SWIM LEVEL PROGRESSION SWIM STARTERS (6-36 MONTHS OLD WITH PARENT) Stage A Water Discovery Ages 6 months to 18 months. Water Discovery, Introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment. Stage B Water Exploration Ages 18 months to 36 months, Water Exploration, Focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

SWIM BASICS (3-5 YEARS OLD) Stage 1 Water Acclimation Water acclimation, Increases comfort wit underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. Stage 2 Water Movement Water Movement, Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently. Stage 3 Water Stamina Water Stamina, Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages. Stage 4 Stroke Introduction Stroke Introduction, Introduces basic stroke technique in and back crawl and reinforces water safety through and elementary . Class times vary per session based on sign-ups for that session.

SWIM STROKES (6-12 YEARS OLD) Stage 1 Water Acclimation Water acclimation, Increases comfort wit underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. Stage 2 Water Movement Children in this level are able to swim at least 20 feet on front, back, and side. They are introduced to the backstroke, sidestroke, , and elementary backstroke. Children can swim a length of the pool without assistance at the end of this level. Stage 3 Water Stamina For children able to swim independently for a distance of 25 yards with the following strokes: front crawl with side breathing, basic elementary backstroke, back crawl with straight arms, and rudimentary sidestroke and breaststroke. Wa- ter safety skills are also emphasized. Stage 4 Stroke Introduction At this point, students work to perform the crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, backstroke and sidestroke, with turns. They are introduced to the butterfly. They continue to work on refining and combining skills while building endurance. Stage 5 Stroke Introduction At this level students should have refined front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and be able to swim 100 yards continuously, with the exclusion of butterfly. They will also be introduced to competitive swimming skills. Students will continue to learn water safety and rescue skills. Stage 6 Stroke Mechanics This level is for children who have mastered the competitive strokes. The swimmers continue to refine strokes, increase endurance, and learn workout techniques. Children should be able to swim the following strokes with excellent form for 100 yards: front crawl with bilateral breathing, back crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

TEEN AND ADULT (12-17 YEARS AND 18+) Classes will focus on the individual goals and needs of each student. This class helps develop comfort in the water, introduce air exchange, floating on front and back and learn basic crawl stroke and other basic strokes. They are intro- duced to the backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary back stroke. With emphasis on technique to increase endurance. gives an opportunity for students to learn about relays and an introduction to swim team routines.
