Fuji & Shizuoka Sengen Shrine (4 Hours) Surrounded by beautiful scenery and striking views of Mt. Fuji, Shizuoka Prefecture is a modern city with great ties to its historic past. First, we will visit Sunpu Castle Park. A lush, emerald green garden surrounds the park's showpiece, the ruins of Sunpu Castle. Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu built the castle in 1585 and lived there on two occasions. Its remains hint at its former grandeur. The Edo Period castle was surrounded by moats and stone walls whose size and fortitude can still be seen in the ruins. From the park, continue on to Shizuoka Sengen Shrine, a complex of seven shrines. Sengen Shrine contains 26 "Important Cultural Assets" and an extensive collection of historical artifacts from the Tokugawa shogunate that ruled Japan for 300 years during the Edo Period. Sengen Shrine is also noted for its dramatic architectural style and extensive use of gold leaf, lacquer and wood carvings. We will complete our day at Miho-no-Matsubara, a picturesque pine grove along the eastern coast of the Miho Peninsula, given the distinction of "New Three Views of Japan," a designation of scenic beauty. This inspirational spot for artists offers dramatic views of Mt. Fuji. Day 8**Mar 1 Kobe, Japan This morning, we will arrive Kobe, Japan. Ships disembark at 8:00 AM and embark at 3:00 PM. Kobe – Sake Brewery Museum & Mt Rokko (4 Hours) Sake is a Japanese alcoholic beverage made from rice grain. We will have a delightful drive through the city of Kobe, en route to the Sake Brewery and Museum. The southeastern section of Kobe is renowned for producing fine quality sake. Upon arrival at the Sake Brewery Museum, we will notice the scent of wood and straw. This is because the museum is housed in authentic sake "kura" (brewery). A screening of an old promotional short film as well as a variety of industrial videos explain the entire sake-making process, helps to explain sake's origins as well as provide instruction on how to better enjoy your sake tasting. Before we return to the ship, we will stop at the beautiful Mt. Rokko. Located in southern Hyogo and on the northern coast of the Osaka Bay, Mt. Rokko is the highest peak in the Rokko mountain range. Upon arrival, a drive to the top of the mountain for a stop at the Mt. Rokko Observatory where you'll enjoy spectacular panoramic vistas of Kobe's Osaka Bay and, on clear days, the Inland Sea. Day 9**Mar 2 At Sea Today is a Sea Day; we are on our way to Okinawa, Japan. Day 10**Mar 3 Okinawa, Japan This morning, we will arrive Okinawa, Japan. Ships disembark at 7:00 AM and embark at 3:00 PM. Okinawa – Shurijo Castle & Kokusai Street (4.5 Hours) The largest island in the Ryukyu Archipelago, Okinawa has been a center of trade and a source for conflict through its history. Upon arrival at the port, we will visit Shuri Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was the palace of the Ryūkyū Kingdom and cultural center of the Ryukyu Island until 1879. It was almost completely destroyed in 1945 during the Battle of Okinawa. In 1992, it was reconstructed on the original site based on photographs, historical records, and memory. One might be in for a surprise as the architecture of the castle is very different from other Japanese castles. After that, we can enjoy our shopping at Kokusai Dori, literally "International Road", is Naha's main street, stretching for roughly two kilometers through downtown Naha. After enjoy our shopping here, we will return to our ship. Day 11**Mar 4 Keelung – Beitou (D) Arrive at Port of Keelung Passenger Terminal. After disembarking, we will have a tour in Keelung, a port city near Taipei, in northern Taiwan. Surrounded by mountains, it’s known for its sheltered harbor. Heping Island Park is one of the earliest places where the Han people settled. A big highlight of Heping Island Park is its sea-corrosion landscape. The park is full of sandstones. The strange rocks along its coastlines make a unique landscape after they are eroded by sea water and sea winds for a long time. Keelung Miaokou Night Market is one of the most famous night markets in Taiwan. They are open during the day for lunch also. As one of Taiwan's more traditional food-focused night markets, and get ready for some cheap, delicious seafood! Come with an empty stomach! Miaokou is located adjacent to Keelung Harbour and forms the downtown area of the city. Afterwards, we will head to our Hot Springs Resort as our accommodation for tonight. During our stay, feel free to enjoy the onsen spa inside the resort, as this rejuvenating experience will help reduce insomnia and aid in recovering from fatigue. Dinner will be served at the hotel. Day 12**Mar 5 Beitou – Taipei (B, L) In the morning, feel free to use the hot spring facilities in the resort for restoring your energy, and to prepare for our next adventure. Then, we will visit Geothermal Valley, sometimes simply Thermal Valley or Hell Valley which is a volcanic crater filled with steaming natural sulfuric hot spring water. The mineral composition of the rare green sulfur spring waters can only be found in two locations in the world, here in Beitou and in Akita, Japan.
