PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is present on the altar. Our mission, born at that altar, is to be sent forth into our neighborhood in order to build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed more than in word the needs of our people.

St. Matthew Parish has resumed public Masses. Our Guidelines follow the Archdiocesan protocol. Weekday Masses have returned to the Parish Office / Rectory. Archbishop Rozanski lifts the dispensation for attending Sunday Mass and Holy Days on July 1st.

After July 1st, we enter the Church through the main doors and the Parish Office / Rectory up the side ramp. Protocols like temperature taking, hand sanitizing and mask wearing will continue to be encouraged. Open seating in the Church is possible. Processions during Mass and safe movements in the Church will slowly return. Receiving communion will remain masked for the safety of all. Exiting the Church will be each one’s discretion. We continue to disinfect the Church after each use.

The Parish Office / Rectory use is examined on a per need basis. The Family Center is not open for meetings. Guidelines will be adjusted during Summer to help us remain well in

mind, body and spirit. All are welcome to return using the established guidelines and protocols.

Our Sacramental Life

Bands of Marriage: Congratulations to Melanie Wilson and Tyrell Scurlock married Saturday, July 3rd.

Baptism: Congratulation to Sophia Oluwafunmilyo, daughter of Osceilee and Akintola Mitchell-Ajagunna welcome into our faith Sunday, July 4th. Sunday, June 27, 2021

As our world moves toward healing from this virus, everyone is invited to gather for the Eucharist—the true presence of the Body of Christ. On Thursday, July 1, 2021, Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski will lift our dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass - meaning that we are to return to Mass in-person each Sunday, unless for special reasons.

Our parishes will continue to follow our protocols to help parishioners feel safe and comfortable returning to Mass. Pastors and Parish Life Coordinators will continue to be guided by directives of local health departments as they make decisions about the best interests of the spiritual and overall well-being of their parish families.

At St. Matthew the Apostle Parish, The Spiritual Life & Worship Commission continues to examine the data that affects us in St. Louis. Low vaccination rates in Missouri makes us cautious. We understand the harm variants of the virus can cause, especially to our children and elders.

We at St. Matthew will practice the following:

 All daily and Saturday weekend Masses are held back in the Parish Office Library. The side ramp is the easiest access into the Library.

 Our religious devotions (Stations of the Cross and Rosary) will continue to be lived the best way to unite our parishioners in prayer.

 We enter Sunday Mass through the front doors (as entrance and as exit). The side ramp is always an option. Temperature taking, hand sanitizing, mask wearing and physical distancing is encouraged.

 Small steps will help us acclimate to the changes, such as: masks will be removed on the altar platform only for announcements, reading and presiding; a sung responsorial psalm will be added; and sacramental practices will be re-incorporated into the Mass.

 The parish office hours remain 9am – 5pm. Public spaces continue to be disinfected after each use. Office use is examined on a per need basis. Our gatherings and length of time together will be monitored. The Family Center remains closed.

We have lived a difficult time well, keeping everyone safe by looking after the common good. We will celebrate all who have died from COVID during our Mass of Remembrance in November. May we remain happy and healthy in mind, body and spirit. As we continue to care for each other, we pray for one another through the intercession of Saint Matthew the Apostle. Sunday, June 27, 2021

National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows—Guild Center presents a program: ‘In Search of St. Paul’ on the remaining Saturdays, July 10 and August 21, 10 am—Noon. Presenter: Mark Etling, Ph.D. Cost: $30 for series; $10 per session. It’s not a certainty that all the letters bearing Paul’s name were actually written by him. There are historical, literary and theological indicators that distinguish Paul’s genuine letters from the others. In this series we will look at three distinct phases or “faces” of the message of consistencies between “real” Paul and the message of Jesus. For more information, call 618-394-6281.
