Hank Marvin album HANK set for release 2nd June 2014 Submitted by: Bennett Public Relations Thursday, 10 April 2014 Hank Marvin, the legendary guitarist and modern day icon, who has inspired generations and garnered critical acclaim throughout his career for his work with The Shadows and as a solo artist, releases a long-awaited new studio album on 2 June 2014. Simply titled HANK, the album will be released on the DMG TV label. Featuring 14 tracks, HANK includes fresh interpretations of some of Marvin’s favourite summer-themed music, along with one new composition. It’s the first new release since 2007’s UK Top 10 Guitar Man, for the man whose legendary achievements were restated yet again in The Times in February 2014, when he was listed as Number 2, amongst the world’s greatest guitar players and The Shadows amongst the greatest groups! It’s been 60 years since the man who introduced the Fender Stratocaster to the UK, picked up his first musical instrument. Marvin’s performances as a solo frontman and with The Shadows on their records and backing Cliff Richard have resulted in millions of worldwide record sales. The Shadows’ monumental chart debut with Apache in 1960 started an incredible run of 13 UK Top 10 hits for the group in just 4 years, during which time their unmistakeable style became a household sound around the world. Hank and The Shadows ruled the charts during the early 1960s and as a solo artist from the late 1970s to the present day Hank Marvin has sold in excess of 6 million albums. -

Υποθέτω θα το όριζαν σαν µια αναδροµή στο ασυνείδητο ή στο υποσυνείδητο. Να µε συγχωρέσουν αλλά έχω αντίθετη άποψη! Εγώ θα σας πω ότι το όνειρο ή µάλλον ο κόσµος των ονείρων, είναι κάτι το πραγµατικό. Ναι! Κάτι το πραγµατικό. Είναι ένας Κόσµος στον οποίον µεταφερόµαστε µε τον ύπνο... σαν να ταξιδεύει η ψυχή µας και να µπαίνει σε ένα άλλο υλικό σώµα, σε κάποια άλλη διάσταση. Ένας κόσµος στον οποίο δεν ισχύουν οι νόµοι, οι φυσικοί νόµοι που ισχύουν σε αυτόν που ζούµε όταν είµαστε ξύπνιοι! ∆εν χρειάζεται να έχεις φτερά για να πετάξεις, ούτε χρειάζεται να πονάς όταν χτυπάς. These Eyes Before
collidethese eyes before Classic yet Modern... If you’re already familiar with Collide, you surely know that the duo’s brave, forward-looking electronic sound is deeply grounded in a fusion of diverse influences (hence the band’s chosen name). Over the years, singer kaRIN and pro- ducer Statik have proven themselves to be gifted interpreters as well as courageous innovators – consider their brooding take on the Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit”, a highlight of 2000’s landmark Chasing The Ghost, or their expansive take on Dusty Springfield’s “Son Of A Preacher Man”, from the remix set Distort, and the beloved anthem “The Lunatics are Taking Over the Asylum”, from their Vortex album. But nothing in the group’s history will sufficiently prepare you for These Eyes Before: a set of ten mainstream classics, each one completely reimagined by the imaginative pair. We don’t want to ruin all of Collide’s surprises, since part of the joy of listening to These Eyes Before is encountering familiar material with utterly refreshing arrangements. And you will be familiar with the playlist – any real music fan will be able to sing along to the tunes kaRIN and Statik have selected. Also, we don’t want to single out any highlights, because a project like this one is nothing but highlights. But we’d be remiss if we didn’t crow about the group’s flexibility, and their unerring ability to make songs of all kinds seem utterly consistent with the sound they’ve been developing for the past fifteen years. In their hands, “Space Oddity” becomes a gorgeous, jazzy, ethereal techno-rock stroll, and David Essex’s swaggering “Rock On” turns into a deliciously distorted slice of trip-hop. -

DE DEVOLUTIONARE POPHELD VIKTOR TSOJ: RUSLANDS GROTE IDOOL TEGEN WIL EN DANK A BAND CALLED ‘THE MOVIES’ In april 1993 studeerde ik voor een tijdje Russisch aan het spionneninstituut MGIMO in Moskou. Ik keek natuurlijk rond om te ondervinden op wat voor rare planeet ik was aanbeland. Ik voelde me als Gagarin, de eerste kosmonaut in Outer Space. Ik kwam op de Arbat bij een winkel ‘Melodia’ geheten. Ik ben wild van popmuziek en moest zien wat Moskou had te bieden. Ik kwam binnen en zag allemaal bakken met vinyl. En in een van die bakken trof ik de volledige platencollectie van ‘Golden Earring’; echt werkelijk alles en geperst in de zeventiger jaren. De grootste hits die nog moesten komen en later op CD werden uitgebracht waren er natuurlijk nog niet bij: Radar Love; Twilight Zone en When The Lady Smiles, de schandaalplaat vanwege de video over een vermeende metroverkrachting. Pas veel later leerde ik dat deze platen met name in de tijd van de Olympische Spelen van ’80 in Moskou door westerlingen waren meegebracht en zo hier waren aanbeland en nu via een soort ruilhandel in deze winkel waren terechtgekomen. Geïmporteerd vooral via atleten vanuit Nederland, want de VS namen uit protest niet deel aan die Spelen! Maar er werd me ook verteld dat iedereen in Rusland ‘Golden Earring’ kende en in de waan verkeerde dat het een van de populairste Amerikaanse rockgroepen was. Hun grootste hit ‘Twilight Zone’ die dus later in de USSR terecht kwam werd de grootste inspiratiebron voor het doen ontstaan van de zogenaamde ‘Red Wave’, waarvan de waanzinnig populaire KINO de belangrijkste vertegenwoordiger was. -

Elisabeth Haich INITIATION AUTHOR'S NOTE It is far from my intentions to want to provide a historical picture of Egypt. A person who is living in any given place has not the faintest idea of the peculiarities of his country, and he does not consider customs, language and religion from an ethnographic point of view. He takes everything as a matter of course. He is a human being and has his joys and sorrows, just like every other human being, anywhere, any place, any time; for that which is truly human is timeless and changeless. My concern here is only with the human, not with ethnography and history. That is why I have, in relating the story which follows here, intentionally used modern terms. I have avoided using Egyptian sounding words to create the illusion of an Egyptian atmosphere. The teachings of the High Priest Ptahhotep are given in modern language so that modern people may understand them. For religious symbols also, I have chosen to use modern terms so that all may understand what these symbols mean. People of today understand us better if we say 'God' than if we were to use the Egyptian term 'Ptah' for the same concept. If we say 'Ptah' everyone immediately thinks, 'Oh yes, Ptah, the Egyptian God'. No! Ptah was not an Egyptian God. On the contrary, the Egyptians called the same God whom we call God, by the name of Ptah. And to take another example, their term for Satan was Seth. The words God and Satan carry meanings for us today which we would not get from the words Ptah or Seth. -
