Namaste,

oga practice assists us to align our internal environment to the natural rhythms and cycles of nature. We can empower ourselves to find harmony within and balance the qualities evoked by the season. Apart from many other things, the one thing that we can be very sure about during the summer is the increasing temperatures. Each year, it is getting intolerably warmer. Y But simple Yoga practices, relaxation and breathing techniques will help us to cool off this summer. Regular practice of Yoga can help us acclimatise to the summer heat by activating our in-built self-cooling system. This summer, let us be mindful to practice with more ease, slow our pace and make the most of our breath awareness for a refreshing and revitalizing practice. By consciously living a yogic lifestyle, we can reduce excess heat on the physical, mental, and emotional levels.

This summer holidays, enrol your children for the Children’s Camp at The Yoga Institute and help them take a break from academics as well as the digital addiction.

27th April is Dr. Jayadeva’s 90th Birth Anniversary and with profound respect and deep love we remember our Guru who was a great scholar and a true yogi. Dr Jayadeva, the epitome of modesty, has been the simplest man with bare minimum needs. His article brings to our awareness about how worldly possessions only generate diminishing returns. Maa Hansaji has candidly shared tidbits about her marital relationship to throw more light on how Yoga way of living scores a successful marriage.

He starts with the verse ‘kevalam Rajyogaya’ .ie. Hatha Yoga is for rajyoga (samadhi). Swatmaramji suggests “Sarva chinta vivarjita” - one’s mind should be free of any worries before starting a practice, i.e. work on your mind even while practicing asanas.

Similarly in chapter 1, he is talking about Sadhak and Badhak tattvas. They are obstacles and factors conducive for sadhana, so again he suggests working on the mind. The concept of Mitahara too is a mind control. Before explaining , Swatmaramji comes up with the verse “Chale vate chale chittam, nischalm nichle bhavet,” i.e. when the breath is unsteady, the mind is unsteady too and when the breath is steady, the mind attains steadiness. All through these four chapters, there are references of manas, chitta, the stages of samadhi, the absorption of chitta in nad, etc. Varsha Gala

Our desires for material possessions lead us to much travail and suffering. What is true in commerce and economics is also true in spiritual life, viz., But it is also true that such possessions have their own limited merits. adding more and more of variables to a constant factor brings about Worldly possessions also have an inbuilt capacity to cause us diminishing returns. When we consider the effort it takes to possess things, and the trouble in maintaining them, and the further suffering when we have to part with them, we realize that it would have been better if we did not have the things right from the beginning. Had we not been drawn to these material things, and had we not possessed them in abundance, we would not have reached this saturation point, to feel disenchanted about them. So in one sense, however painful it may appear, material things in a different context become very necessary objects for our own growth and development. Life is a large training school and we should not feel unhappy about being here. As Tolstoy rightly said, “We must remind ourselves as often as possible that our true life is not this external, material life that passes before our eyes here on earth, but that it is the inner life of our spirit, for which the visible serves as a scaffolding, a necessary aid to our spiritual growth”. Studying and living at The Yoga Institute for 3 months was a life changing experience for CANDICE ROBERTS, me. Before coming to TYI, my yoga practice was sporadic and undisciplined, and I had STUDENT FROM only very basic knowledge of the philosophy of Yoga. AUSTRALIA So, I arrived at TYI hoping to deepen my knowledge on Yoga and to learn the practical tools to follow Yoga as a way of life - The Institute did not disappoint. “ The course was very comprehensive and the calibre of the teachers high. There was always someone to turn to with any questions we had or to give advice. It’s not an easy course and requires a lot of self-discipline but like anything, you get out what you put in. I’m so grateful to The Yoga Institute for offering such profound teachings on Yoga – the 3-month TTC is a course that everyone should do!

July 2018 happened to be one of my biggest life altering moments, one that was SOUMYA JAJOR, completely unforeseen and unplanned; the SADHAKA kind that only happens because it is destined. I arrived at The Yoga Institute, believing that I would do some Yoga (Asanas!) and be able to find some much needed peace of mind. But what I found was so much more, a whole new direction to my life. My journey started with a Basic and Advanced Teachers Training Courses, internship, understudy programme and teaching assignments which bring their own learning along. I feel fortunate to be here amidst such a positive and nurturing environment, which is not just creating opportunities for me to spread the goodness of Yoga but also teaching me to live my own life with a sense of purpose and harmony. RAJEN DUTIA, Seeing and interacting with Hansa Ma has STUDENT FROM ANDHERI been a constant source of inspiration and guidance for me while having the CENTRE mentorship of the highly competent teachers truly enriches my learning experience. Be it the institute campus, its people or the vibration of this place, the one word I attribute to it is - beautiful! Come visit us to experience it for yourself.

I attended the inaugural lecture given by Hansaji and was really impressed. I joined the classes immediately, run by Rohan Sheth and Brinda Sheth from the first day. I always thought that Yoga was an ok ok exercise and gymming was always a better option. But after attending the Yoga classes, I feel Yoga is more effective and necessary. The classes are very efficiently conducted by our teacher. I underwent an angioplasty of my heart three years ago, wherein one stent was fitted. After attending regular classes for the last six months under the able guidance of Hiralben, our Yoga teacher, I can proudly say that the heaviness that I used to feel in my chest has gone away and I feel much much better. Thank you to Rohan ji & Brinda ji.

YOGASATTVA 31 Shri Yogendraji - Father of Renaissance

So a student of yoga should not get stuck at some little thing, which he wanted and he got, like curing his head-ache, if he stops there, he has no interest in yoga. His study of Yoga was simply a process of utility, he was looking for some treatment or a cure. But a real student of Yoga, aspires that for the expansion of consciousness; at that stage he is much more aware. How far does he want to go, he is afraid of the highest? Are his legs weak, he must get the strength in the legs, go up at the highest so that he can see in a perspective from an objective point of view everything. That becomes his ideal. The student of Yoga who will study becomes his ideal. The student of Yoga who will study Yoga, he must have that ambition for going as high as possible.

“You sell your soul a hundred times when you try to live for the satisfaction of others.”

FOUNDER, SHRI YOGENDRAJI
