I argue that leadership selection is dependent on both the electoral institution that a party ﬁnds itself in and the intra-party dynamics that constrain the party. Due to a high degree of seat- vote elasticity that is characteristic of majoritarian systems, replacing unpopular leaders is a feasible strategy for opposition parties in these systems to increase their seat shares. In contrast, in proportional systems, due to low seat-vote elasticity, on average opposition parties that replace their leaders su↵er from vote loss. My model of party leadership selection shows that since party members can provide valuable election campaign e↵ort, they can coerce those who select the party leader (the selectorate) into choosing their preferred leader.

En studie om riksdagsledamöters retorik angående asylsökande och flyktingar hösten 2015 utifrån Köpenhamnsskolans säkerhetiserings- teori. Josefina Wallin Sammanfattning Denna studie har undersökt om retoriken kring asyl- och flyktingfrågan ändrades bland riksdagsledamöter under hösten 2015 utifrån Köpenhamnsskolans säkerhetiseringsteori. Detta har möjliggjorts genom processpårning som metodologiskt tillvägagångssätt där riksdags- och regeringsdokument analyserats genom säkerhetiseringsteorin. Studiens analys visar att flyktingar och asylsökande framställdes som ett existentiellt hot gentemot det svenska samhällets funktionalitet i slutet av hösten 2015 och de sedvanliga politiska rutinerna frångicks i hanteringen av frågan. En fullständig säkerhetisering skedde således i december 2015 i samband med proposition 2015/16:67 ”Särskilda åtgärder vid allvarlig fara för den allmänna ordningen eller den inre säkerheten i landet”. Dock visar studiens resultat att det finns en otydlighet i säkerhetiseringsteorins definitioner av nyckelbegreppet säkerhetiseringsaktör. The Government today took a decision to extend the entry ban on all passenger flights from the UK to Sweden. The flight ban initially came into force on Monday 21 December. The Government has instructed the Swedish Transport Agency to revoke this decision if the Public Health Agency of Sweden deems it justifiable in terms of disease control. The Government has also instructed the Public Health Agency of Sweden to immediately inform the Swedish Transport Agency if the disease control situation is such that the decision can be revoked. The decision does not apply to all flights. Cargo flights and ambulance flights are exempted. Sweden: Prime Minister Steps Down Ahead of Next Year's Election
22 August 2021 Sweden: Prime minister steps down ahead of next year’s election Torbjörn Isaksson Prime minister Stefan Löfven announced today that he will in November resign as party chairman for the Social Democrats as well as prime minister. Löfven resigns for personal reasons. The timing of his announcement came as a surprise. He has been head of the Social Democrats since 2012 and prime minister since 2014. Löfven’s resignation could make the already tricky political situation even more complicated as the government must step down if the new candidate for prime minister is not accepted by the Riksdag. It is uncertain whether the Left Party and the Center Party will once again accept a government with the Social Democrats and the Greens. However, the ﬁrst challenge for the government is the budget bill for 2022 due 20 September. The budget process will be led by Löfven and Finance Minister Andersson. Löfven has emphasised that if the budget is not accepted by the Riksdag, then the government will resign. The current government has governed on the oppositions’ budget before, though. The red-green government’s budget proposal needs at least indirect support from the Left Party and the Center Party. The Center Party doesn’t accept any negotiations with the Left Party, while the Left Party has presented a list with reforms ahead of the budget. Thus, much suggests that it will be a turbulent autumn for Swedish politics. An extra election is still unlikely. The next general election to the Riksdag is scheduled for September 2022, which will take place even in the case of an extra election before that.

Näringsutskottets betänkande 2013/14:NU14 Mineralpolitiska frågor Sammanfattning I detta betänkande behandlar utskottet 52 motionsyrkanden från den all- männa motionstiden 2013 om olika mineralpolitiska frågor. Samtliga yrkan- den avstyrks av utskottet. Förslag om vissa ändringar i minerallagen avstyrks bl.a. med hänvisning till att regeringen har för avsikt att presentera en proposition om ändringar i minerallagen senare i vår. Motioner om förbud mot uranbrytning och uranprospektering avstyrks av utskottet främst med hänvisning till vad det anförde då motsvarande förslag behandlades våren 2013. De motioner som innefattar krav på höjda avgifter riktade mot gruvnäringen avstyrks också av utskottet. Utskottet anser att sådana höjningar skulle hämma investe- ringsviljan och slå hårt mot de bolag inom gruvnäringen som för närva- rande etablerar sig i Sverige. Utskottet avstyrker också motionsyrkanden som gäller förbud mot utvin- ning av fossil energi och skiffergas. Här hänvisar utskottet bl.a. till att det redan råder strikta miljörestriktioner kring utvinning av gas i Sverige och till att EU nyligen har presenterat minimirekommendationer för utvinning av skiffergas. Avslutningsvis avstyrker utskottet motioner om de samhällsutmaningar som följer i spåren av gruvnäringens expansion i Malmfälten, om ett natio- nellt samverkansprogram samt om ökad samhällelig beredskap i samband med gruvnedläggningar. EMBASSY OF INDIA STOCKHOLM India-Sweden Relations Diplomatic ties between India and Sweden were established in 1949. The two countries enjoy cordial relationship and excellent cooperation in regional and international fora. Sweden supports India’s membership of the expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Sweden supported India in its membership of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) and has extended full support in India’s bid for its pending membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). The two countries have been supporting each other on reciprocity for their non-permanent memberships in the UNSC and various positions in different organs of the UN and other multilateral fora. Mutual economic interests have emerged as the driving force in the relationship. Political Relations High level contact between the two countries goes back to 1957 when Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru visited Sweden. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited Sweden for attending the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm in 1972. Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi visited Sweden in March 1986 and January 1988. The first-ever State Visit by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, wasin 2015. This was followed by the visit of Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven to India in 2016. The landmark State Visit of the President of India in 2015 has taken the relationship to new heights. He was accompanied byShri Hansraj GangaramAhir, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers; Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, MP, Rajya Sabha; Shri Ashwani Kumar, MP, Lok Sabha; senior Government officials; several Vice Chancellors and Directors of leading Indian Universities; and over 60 business leaders from India.
