I'm reaching out to rabbis and synagogues in the community to see if there is anything that we can do to help in your service to your congregants.

We have mental health therapists who can help during stressful times and we are offering to help people shop who can't get out right now, among other useful services during this stay-at-home order. Please review the attached info sheet. We would appreciate you sharing this information wherever you can: send it in a newsletter, post it on your website, or talk about it in your Zoom meetings.

Please reach out if we can help. 845-354-2121 x140 or [email protected]

• A Message from our friends at Helping Hands for the Homeless of Rockland:

Dear Friends of Helping Hands, during this difficult time of social distancing, the Rockland Interfaith Breakfast Program has come up with a creative solution to serve our community, while ensuring that everyone is safe. Instead of a sit-down community breakfast, we have modified our menu so that we can provide our guests with a hot, bagged breakfast and the usual sandwich lunch to take away with them. We understand that many volunteers are wary of venturing out, but there are numerous ways you can help: - Donate individual water bottles – which we provide with both breakfast and lunch. - Make sandwiches at home. We will deliver the sandwich makings and pick them up from your home. - Donate pastries, dessert items, and/or loaves of bread. - Work in the kitchen with a small crew of volunteers (well under 10!) to put meals together. Donations can be brought to the back door of the Church of the Nazzarene, 11 Church Street, Spring Valley, between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. If you would like us to pick these items up, please contact us by e-mail at [email protected] or by calling 845-356-0100. NHC is proud of its long-time relationship with Helping Hands, with Rabbi Kurland serving on their board for more than 15 years. Please consider, if you are able, to help support this fine organization with a financial donation – no matter what the size: Helping Hands of Rockland, PO Box 240, Nyack, NY 10960 Please click here for an article on “Judaism and the Homeless”: https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/judaism-and-the-homeless

• Tzedakah Tribute Donations: It is very simple to make a Tzedakah Tribute Donation to NHC. For a minimum of $5, you may pick a fund - General Fund, Rabbi's Discretionary Fund, Cantor's Discretionary Fund, Building Fund, Shabbos Club, Hebrew School, Prayer Books or Bonnie Lynne Religious School Scholarship. We will send the person you are making the tribute to a card acknowledging your donation; and will also list your donation in the monthly Bulletin. (Note, the amount of your donation is NOT included on the tribute card, or in the Bulletin.) These donations may be made in honor of a simcha, in memory of a loved one, in appreciation of someone, offering get well wishes, etc. Tribute Donations is a great way to help NHC and acknowledge life cycle events. (Note - if you are making a tribute donation to someone who is not affiliated with NHC, please be sure to include their address so that we know where to mail the tribute card.) To make a Tzedakah Tribute Donation, please contact Jessica Gottlieb at [email protected] or (845) 624-0017. Sisterhood Leagram Donations also may be made to acknowledge life cycle events of our congregants. Please see the "Sisterhood Leagram List" included as an insert with our monthly Bulletin for more information on these important donations, and where they should be sent. We offer several additional ways to honor or remember your loved ones. These include purchasing a plaque on our Memorial Board, purchasing a leaf or stone on our Tree of Life, as well as purchasing a brick on Rabbi's front brick walk. Please click here for more info: www.nanuethc.org/wp- content/uploads/2019/11/Three-Ways-to-Honor-or-Remember-Your-Loved-Ones.jpg Donations may be made by check, credit card or cash. More substantial donations to NHC also may be made by transfer of stock securities. • Attention those 70½ and older who are forced to take their “RMD” (Required Minimum Distribution) from an IRA Account: Instead of having the RMD push you into a higher tax bracket (and potentially adding penalties or surcharges against Social Security and Medicare Payments), please ask your tax accountant about a “QCD” (Qualified Charitable Donation), which is a tax-free annual gift (up to $100,000) to a charitable organization such as NHC. This QCD would help offset satisfying your RMD, potentially lowering your taxable annual income (and possibly your tax bracket) while at the same time greatly helping Nanuet Hebrew Center.

We invite you to view Episode 2 of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann's "Clarkstown's Faith Matters", featuring a very interesting discussion with Rabbi Paul Kurland (Nanuet Hebrew Center), Reverend Richard Hasselbeck (Clarkstown Reformed Church) and Mohammad Ziaullah (Rockland Islamic Center). Please click here: https://youtu.be/_FHMrp6R7Eg NHC and MJC Consolidation Update

We thank you for your continued support of our consolidation plans and are extremely excited about the bright future of our combined congregations. We appreciate your participation in our online vote on our new name and were very pleased by the high and enthusiastic voter turnout. The clear choice for our new name, with 69.3% of the vote is “Congregation Shir Shalom”.

We look forward to Congregation Shir Shalom being our synagogue home where we all join together in a “Song of Peace”!

When our regular nightly minyans resume at NHC, we want to make sure we do not fall short of the required number. To help ensure this, we maintain a list of congregants and friends who live close to NHC (within about 5-minutes), who can be contacted on a rotating basis, on a moment’s notice if we are short for a minyan. May we include you on this list? If interested and available, please reply to the NHC Office ([email protected] or 845-708-9181). • We Want Your Shoes!
