Ministry Information CHRISTIAN CONCERN COMMITTEE (CCC) November 17,2019, was designated the Third World Day of the Poor by His Holiness Pope Francis. In his message to the Church titled The hope of the poor shall not perish for ever, Pope Francis writes "...The situation of the poor obliges us not to keep our distance from the body of the Lord, who suffers in them. Instead, we are called to touch his flesh and to be personally committed in offering a service that is an authentic form of evangelization..." At Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Christian Concern Committee (CCC) is one of four ministries assisting the poor of our area. The CCC was founded in the late 1960s by parishioners who sought to take action to address the emergency material needs of their neighbors in Los Alamos and other Northern New Mexico communities. Since then, the Committee through the funds it receives in its quarterly collections provides assistance to numerous individuals and families. In fiscal year 2018- 2019 those helped numbered over 700. CCC Intake Workers take calls requesting assistance. We rely on social workers, counselors, health professionals and our own church staff to refer people to us for help. The Committee can always use more volunteer Intake Workers to take referral calls during the business day and to electronically prepare and submit commitment sheets. As an Intake Worker you go about your daily affairs and process calls only when you are home and available. For more information about this ministry and to learn about volunteer opportunities contact Nancy Arendt at narendt66@ gmail.com or 672-2255.
