The Black Student Union at the University of Florida presents: Black History Month 2010 a MESSAGE TO our SPONSORS

The University of Florida’s Black History Month is one of the largest student - run celebrations of black achievements, accolades and accomplishments in the Southeastern United States. Black History Month is a highly anticipated, annual se- ries of events that is supported by the University of Florida and sponsored by UF’s Black Student Union. The month serves as a platform to educate, enhance and entertain the students on campus and the surrounding communities by reflecting on the contributions that Black Americans have made. It is our goal to advocate exposure of refined enrichment, inspired by the heritage and legacy of universal Black culture. In the enclosed packet you will have the opportunity to discover how UF celebrates Black History Month and the benefits that we bestow upon those who support our endeavors. This year, the Black History Month 2010 committee is seeking your assistance in supporting the programs that will take place in February 2010. Black History Month 2009 implemented more than 70 programs throughout the university and the surrounding communities. Our most prominent programs included best selling author and award winning broadcaster Tavis Smiley as the month’s keynote speaker and Grammy award winning artists Musiq Soulchild and Ne - Yo performed for a nearly sold out crowd in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The month also encompassed the Florida Invitational Step Show, one of the largest performances by the nine, historically black, Greek lettered organizations. Thousands of diverse audience members, visitors and patrons attended and supported these events. Each year the Black History Month commit- tee decides upon a certain unique organization to donate any additional proceeds toward. Black History Month 2009 sup- ported the Sickle Cell Association of North Central Florida. Our donation to this organization was able to help in the fight for a cure and treatment for the disease that affects 1 in 12 African - A m er i c an s. Unfortunately, our visions and goals cannot fully come to fruition because they transcend the scope of our immediate resources. With your collaboration we hope to increase this scope and include you, your company or organization as a featured sponsor with elite publicity and community outreach opportunities. Our success comes from the fact that the ma- jority of our programs are free and open to the public, therefore, the opportunities to not only enrich people’s lives but to also promote your company are endless. Black History Month 2010 cannot happen without your financial support, re- sources and participation. Without these tools, those who attend and participate in the month’s activities could miss out on a unique opportunity to learn about a history that has and still affects us all. For more information about Black History Month 2010 and how you, your company or organization could help, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or call the University of Florida’s Black Student Union office at 352- 3 9 2 - 1665 ext. 321.
