The many young people and families breathe new life into our already vibrant community. I am always amazed at the incredible sacrifices I see parents make at each and every Mass. As I see moms and dads bring their little ones to religious education classes, I am so grateful for their dedication and desire to share God's love with their children. I am reminded of the love my own mother and father have shown me throughout my life and I give thanks to God for blessing me with wonderful parents. Parents have the awesome privilege and blessing to form the future of the world IN GOD'S IMAGE! That is something we should all give thanks for as well as pray for families who are struggling and children who suffer without loving and caring parents. On this Mother's Day 2021, we are reminded that motherhood is a calling by God. Mothers are a gift from God to our world. Mothers share a profound calling from God that embraces an integral part of the dignity of women. Pope John Paul II wrote a beautiful encyclical called, On the Dignity and Vocation of Women, a great reflection for Mother’s day. The Holy Father’s words are beautifully tender, most especially in light of the fact that his own mother died when he was a child. For example, about pregnancy, he wrote: “Motherhood involves a special communion with the mystery of life, as it develops in the woman's womb. The mother is filled with wonder at this mystery of life, and "understands" with unique intuition what is happening inside her. In the light of the "beginning," the mother accepts and loves as a person the child she is carrying in her womb.” St. Pope John Paul II’s words remind us of the deep spiritual and physiological nature of the role of mothers. This intimate union between mother and her child is utterly unique and sets the blessing of motherhood apart in a special way from all other blessings. Perhaps in our day, in the interest of showcasing other sides of women in society, many have forgotten these beautiful qualities necessary for a healthy and holy society. More than anything else, I hope that the mothers among us can give thanks for their vocations - their special role that Our Lord has invited them to live. I hope as their children, we grow to respect this calling and uphold the institution of motherhood. May we see their vocation as a Divine calling that is given to our world by God! Today, as we give thanks to God for the gift of our mothers, we also remember all mothers who have gone before us with the sign of faith and rest in the sleep of peace. Grant them, O Lord, we pray, a place of refreshment, light and peace. Mary, on this day when we honor all mothers, we turn to you. We thank the Lord whom you serve for the great gift of motherhood. Never has it been known that anyone who sought your intercession was left unaided by grace. Dear Mother, thank you for your "Yes" to the invitation of the angel which brought heaven to earth and changed human history. You opened yourself to God's word and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. May God bless Mothers today and always! God Bless, Fr. Don Kline, V.F. '62&3,"7-$12#0Q7EQ><>= ? GOSPEL REFLECTION Friendship with God What is the greatest act of love which one can give for Jesus calls his disciples his friends. Jesus not only showed the sake of another? Jesus his disciples that he personally cared for them and sought defines friendship - the their welfare. He personally enjoyed their company and mutual bond of trust and wanted to be with them. He ate with them, shared affection which people everything he had with them - even his inmost heart and choose to have for one thoughts. And, he spent himself doing good for them. To another - as the willingness know Jesus personally is to know God and the love and to give totally of oneself - friendship he offers to each one of us. even to the point of laying down one's life for a friend. How is such love possible or even desirable? God made us in One of the special marks of favor shown in the Scriptures is love for love. That is our reason for being, our purpose for to be called the friend of God. Abraham is called the friend living, and our goal in dying. of God (Isaiah 41:8, James 2:23). God spoke with Moses as a man speaks with his friend (Exodus 33:11). Jesus, the God is the source and origin of love - divine and human Lord and Master, calls the disciples his friends rather than his servants. Scripture tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8) - and everything he does flows from his immense love for us. He What does it mean to be a friend of God? Friendship with loved us so much - far beyond what we could ever expect God certainly entails a loving relationship which goes or deserve - that he was willing to pay any price to redeem beyond mere duty and obedience. Jesus' discourse on us from our slavery to sin and death. That is why the Father friendship and brotherly love echoes the words of sent us his beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Proverbs: A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born up his life as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. In this great for adversity (Proverbs 17:17). The distinctive feature of exchange - the Father giving up his Son to death on the Jesus' relationship with his disciples was his personal love cross in order to give us abundant everlasting life and adopt for them. He loved his own to the end (John 13:1). His love us as his beloved sons and daughters in Christ (Romans was unconditional and wholly directed to the good of others. 8:14-17). His love was also sacrificial. He gave the best he had and all that he had. He gave his very life for those he loved in God's love has been poured into our hearts order to secure for them everlasting life with the Father. It is for this reason that we can take hold of a hope that Love to the death does not fade and a joy that does not diminish because God has poured his love into our hearts through The Lord Jesus gives his followers a new commandment - the Holy Spirit who has been given to us (Romans 5:5). a new way of love that goes beyond giving only what is God's love is not limited or subject to changing required or what we think others might deserve. What is the circumstances. It is an enduring love that has power to essence of Jesus' new commandment of love? It is a love change and transform us to be like him - merciful, gracious, to the death - a purifying love that overcomes selfishness, kind, forgiving, and steadfast in showing love not only for fear, and pride.
