SzÁzADI EGyHÁzI LÉLEKÖSSZEÍRÁSAINAK KRITIKAI vizsgálata* Az egyházi lélekösszeírások (status animarum, conscriptio animarum) alapvető forrást jelenthetnek egy múltbéli közösség jellemzéséhez.1 A forrástípus értékét külö- nösen megemeli, ha azt a kutató a rendi világ egy szegletének feltárására állíthatja a szolgálatába. A józsefi népszámlálás máshol részletesen bemutatott ívein kívül ugyanis kevés az 1848 előtti magyar állami vagy uradalmi hivatal által készített olyan össze- írás, amelynek célja az egy időben egy településen élt teljes lakosság számbavétele.2 * A forrásvizsgálat részét képezi egy nagyobb társadalomtörténeti disszertációnak, amely az ELTE BTK Történelemtudományi Doktori Iskola keretén belül készül. A forrástípus sokszor emlegetett pillanatfelvétel jellegén túl rögtön számolnunk kell azzal az eshetőséggel, hogy mire megszáradt a tinta az össze- író papírlapjain, egy település lakossága már nem felelt meg pontosan annak a képnek, amely végül egy adott lista alapján az utókorra maradt. Vagyis az összeírás elkészítése közben – főleg ha az összeíró több napon át végezte munkáját – egy-egy haláleset, szü- letés vagy költözés következtében is megváltozhatott a közösség állapota, és így akár az is előfordulhat, hogy a listán szereplők mindegyike soha nem élt együtt pontosan egy időben. Mindezeket tudomásul véve egyéb értelmezési nehézségek, adatfeldolgozási dilem- mák is könnyen útjába kerülhetnek egy közösség múltját feltárni igyekvő kutatónak az egyházi lélekösszeírások kapcsán. Az alábbiakban elsősorban arra keressük a választ, hogyan lehet megállapítani egy lélekösszeírásról, hogy az valóban a teljes helyben élt lakosságot szerepelteti, illetve hogyan lehet egy lista adatait szükség esetén némiképp korrigálni? Ehhez a Fejér megyei Szár község 1729 és 1850 közötti népességtörténetét feldol- gozó vizsgálataink forrásaiból hozunk néhány példát. A Vértes mellett elterülő falu a török időkben teljesen elnéptelenedett. A hosszú évtizedekig lakatlanul álló helység betelepítését az új földesúr, a tata-gesztesi uradalom birtokosa, Gróf Esterházy József kezdeményezte. 1729-ben érkeztek az első telepesek,4 a plébánia 1735-ben kezdte meg működését a községben.5 A faluközösség etnikai, vallási és jogi értelemben is igen ho- mogén képet mutatott a vizsgált több mint másfél évszázad során: túlnyomórészt római katolikus, német jobbágyok lakták.6 Ha ehhez hozzávesszük, hogy a szári egyházközség 1777-ig abba a Veszprémi Egy- házmegyébe tartozott,7 amely Padányi Biró Márton püspöksége alatt országosan is el- 89–127. Barber, SJ, told them, “you are called and chosen” and told them what serving means today. In front of a crowded Cathedral of Christ the Light Bishop Barber told them he was zeroing in on the third vow they would take shortly, to celebrate the Mass and administer the Sacrament of Confession worthily. “You will never violate the Seal of Confession,” Bishop Barber told the three new priests. “No state or government can oblige you to betray your penitents.” Legislation — SB 360 — has passed the state Senate and is moving to the Assembly. It will compel a priest to reveal to police some sins he hears in confession. The new priests, John Anthony Pietruszka, 32, Javier Ramirez, 43, and Mark Ruiz, 56, listened attentively. Father Pietruszka is from Fall River Massachusetts; Father Ramirez from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico; and Mark Father Ruiz was born and raised in Oakland. He studies in Budapest and Munich. In Hungary he worked as a physics teacher. After the World War II. he spent some time in Paris and then he immigrated to the USA. In Cleveland he worked as an engineer at the General Electric Company. He had a lot of patented inventions. He was also an expert on the questions of Czechoslovakia and Croatia. He wrote and published a lot of articles, essays and books as well in connection with these topics. The major newspapers and journals where he published his writings: Nyugati Magyarság, Lármafa, Virrasztó, Katolikus Magyarok Vasárnapja. He was also the leader of the Committee for the Liberation of Southern Hungary and he became the president of the Committee for Hungarian Liberation as well. He died in Cleveland. Elemér Homonnay records This collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, newsletters, official materials, invitations, and booklets. The whole collection was the result of Elemèr Homonnay`s research activity. He collected this very valuable collection with special reference to the history of Hungary, Hungarians and the history of Hungarian Americans in the USA. The time period is primarily between 1930s - 1980s. As for the collection geographical reference the following areas can be mentioned: Hungary, the USA, Transylvania, Czechoslovakia, The Carpathian area, Austria with special reference to Burgenland.

He studied and received a master's degree in chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires, but later decided to become a Jesuit priest and studied at the Jesuit seminary of Villa Devoto. He studied liberal arts in Santiago, Chile, and in 1960 earned a degree in philosophy from the Catholic University of Buenos Aires. Between 1964 and 1965 he was a teacher of literature and psychology at Inmaculada High School in the province of Santa Fe, and in 1966 he taught the same courses at the prestigious Colegio del Salvador in Buenos Aires. In 1967, he returned to his theological studies and was ordained a priest on December 13, 1969. After his perpetual profession as a Jesuit in 1973, he became master of novices at the Seminary of Villa Barilari in San Miguel. Later that same year, he was elected superior of the Jesuit province of Argentina and Uruguay. In 1980, he returned to San Miguel as a teacher at the Jesuit school, a job rarely taken by a former provincial superior.

    The History Of Christ Church Pottstown, Pa. Compiled by MORISON BLAKE, USNR-RET. + 1964 1846 1964 FOREWORD In compiling the history of a church many sources must be sought out and consulted. The newspaper clippings collected over a long period of time by the late Frederick W. Ancona have been of inestimable help. The History of Christ Church written and privately printed by the late William Herbert Price has suggested many areas to explore in even more detail then he was able to do at the time of his writing. Our parent church, St. Gabriel’s of Douglassville, published recently, a monograph of its history and through the courtesy of the Rector, Reverend Lloyd L. Wolf, a copy was given to Christ Church to aid in obtaining the background of our heritage. The Pottstown Mercury has been most generous in permitting incorporation of items appearing in its pages concerning Christ Church, which are of value in the history of a church. Too much cannot be said for the assistance of the staff of the Pottstown Public Library in making available sources of collateral Pottstown history which fitted the community activities of Christ Church. Pope Paul VI accepted the resignation of the 83 year-old cardinal for reasons of age. The cardinal had served his archdiocese for eight years longer than the recommended retirement age of 75 which had been fixed by Pope Paul VI. Vatican sources announced that automatically succeeding Cardinal McIntyre as archbishop of Los Angeles, one of the largest jurisdictions in the United States, is Archbishop Timothy Manning, formerly bishop of Fresno and now coadjutor bishop in Los Angeles with the right of succession. Frequently involved in headline making disputes with clergy and religious of a liberal bent, the cardinal is praised by Catholics of many viewpoints for his consistent endeavors to raise the standard of Catholic education in his archdiocese. A native of New York, Cardinal McIntyre, who will remain a member of the College of Cardinals, will be 84 on June 25. He was named archbishop of Los Angeles in 1948 and was made a cardinal by Pope Pius XII in 1953. Cardinal McIntyre has been one of the leading conservatives in the American church, a stance which often led to controversy with liberal elements of his archdiocese.
