A key to the genera is included and distribution records are provided at the prefecture level. Two genera (Baryproctus Ashmead and Dioxybracon Granger) are recorded for the first time from Japan, with the species Baryproctus barypus (Marshall) and Dioxybracon koshunensis (Watanabe) comb. nov. (= Bracon koshunensis Watanabe). The two species Stenobracon oculatus and Chelonogastra formosana are excluded from the Japanese species list. -

Moths of Poole Harbour is a project of Birds of Poole Harbour Moths of Poole Harbour Species List Birds of Poole Harbour & Moths of Poole Harbour recording area The Moths of Poole Harbour Project The ‘Moths of Poole Harbour’ project (MoPH) was established in 2017 to gain knowledge of moth species occurring in Poole Harbour, Dorset, their distribution, abundance and to some extent, their habitat requirements. The study area uses the same boundaries as the Birds of Poole Harbour (BoPH) project. Abigail Gibbs and Chris Thain, previous Wardens on Brownsea Island for Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT), were invited by BoPH to undertake a study of moths in the Poole Harbour recording area. This is an area of some 175 square kilometres stretching from Corfe Castle in the south to Canford Heath in the north of the conurbation and west as far as Wareham. 4 moth traps were purchased for the project; 3 Mercury Vapour (MV) Robinson traps with 50m extension cables and one Actinic, Ultra-violet (UV) portable Heath trap running from a rechargeable battery. This was the capability that was deployed on most of the ensuing 327 nights of trapping. Locations were selected using a number of criteria: Habitat, accessibility, existing knowledge (previously well-recorded sites were generally not included), potential for repeat visits, site security and potential for public engagement. Field work commenced from late July 2017 and continued until October. Generally, in the years 2018 – 2020 trapping field work began in March/ April and ran on until late October or early November, stopping at the first frost. -

(Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) Ignác Richter Abstract. Present article brings information about new findings of case–bearing moths (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) from the Balkan Peninsula. Several species of the genus Coleophora were recorded for the first time for some of the Balkan countries. Coleophora herniariae, C. daglarica and C. albipennella are recorded as new for the fauna of Europe. The description Coleophora vardarella Richter, sp. nov., from Macedonia is given. Keywords. The family Coleophoridae Bruand, 1850 belongs to the less known moths of the Balkans, therefore our focus has been oriented towards this large Lepidoptera family. Faunistic and systematic studies of this moth group in the Balkans resulted in interesting findings. One of the most important recent works about the genera Coleophora Hübner, 1822 and Goniodoma Zeller, 1849 of the Balkan Peninsula is the contribution of Richter & Pastorális (2015). Results of surveys conducted by seni- or author, executed in the years 2010–2014 at different sites of Croatia, Montene- gro, Macedonia, and Bulgaria were presented. -

Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe. -

(See Entomology, page 85). The above diagram explains the variously coloured areas in the photograph. The top right-hand sector bounded by the solid line is of Scots pine with a few scattered Japanese larch, all planted in 1930. The pine defoliated by Pine looper appear blue in the photograph (stippled in the diagram), those relatively unalfected are a deep purplish red; the Japanese larch are pink. The area covered by the photograph also includes other tree species planted both in the normal afforestation programme and in silvicultural experiments. Gaps in some of the silvicultural plots have been caused by mechanical uprooting of trees to compare the rooting patterns of tree species in connection with their susceptibility to windthrow. Key to tree species: CP Corsican pine, JL Japanese larch, LP Lodgepole pine, MC Mixed conifers, NS Norway spruce, SP Scots pine, SS Sitka spruce. Muus Erik J. van Nieukerken TREFWOORDEN Faunistiek, nieuwe waarneming, provincies, areaaluitbreidingen Entomologische Berichten 73 (3): 91-117 In de jaren 2007-2010 werden maar liefst elf soorten kleine vlinders nieuw voor onze fauna gevonden: Infurcitinea teriolella, Bucculatrix ulmifoliae, Caloptilia fidella, Phyllonorycter issikii, Coleophora motacillella, Cochylis molliculana, Cnephasia sedana, Clepsis dumicolana, Lobesia botrana, Pseudococcyx tessulatana en Evergestis aenealis. Daarnaast werden drie soorten al elders gemeld: Caloptilia hemidactylella, Cydalima perspectalis en Bucculatrix ainsliella. Na 30 jaar van jaarlijsten geven we een evaluatie, met onder andere een totaal van 128 nieuw gemelde soorten. Dit zijn er minder dan in Denemarken, maar meer dan op de Britse Eilanden of in Zweden. We verklaren deze verschillen door het verschil in oppervlak van de landen: hoe kleiner het land, hoe meer kans dat er nieuwe soorten gevonden worden. Dit jaaroverzicht is het laatste dat in deze vorm verschijnt. Dit is het negentiende jaaroverzicht van de Nederlandse Micro- die beoordeeld konden worden door specialisten. Jsou známé i pří - smrku východního ( Picea orientalis ), ale i smr - pady, kdy byla vajíčka zjištěna i přímo na střed - ku pichlavého ( Picea pungens ). Vhodnost živ - ní ose větviček. Samice naklade celkem max. né rostliny je určována vnitřní anatomickou 30 vajíček, které procházejí cca 14denní klido - stavbou asimilačních orgánů, například na jeh - vou fází. Housenka se líhne nejdříve uprostřed licích smrku omorika ( Picea omorika ) byla května, nejpozději koncem července. Mladá zaznamenána výrazná mortalita vajíček i larev. housenka se zavrtává do jehlice poblíž její báze. Pro vývoj larev vyhovují mnohem více jehlice Žír probíhá v parenchymu směrem ke špičce. v průřezu oválné. Ploché jehlice např. jedle Samice obaleče smrkového, forma s výraznou Napadená jehlice se odlišuje od zdravých zdu - (Abies ) či jedlovce ( Tsuga ) jsou vzhledem bílou kresbou. -

14 Vergelijkend onderzoek van de macronachtvlinders (Lepidoptera) van enkele uiterwaarden nabij Dordrecht Ruud Vis Dik O. Visser TREFWOORDEN Macrolepidoptera, Heterocera, faunistiek, similarity index Entomologische Berichten 67 (1-2): 14-26 De macronachtvlinders van de uiterwaarden van Kop van het Land, nabij Dordrecht, zijn van 1987 tot en met 2004 onderzocht. Het gebied bestaat uit buitendijkse terreinen die regelmatig onderlopen en waarin weinig onderzoek is gedaan. De Kop van het Land is relatief rijk aan soorten. Enkele soorten zijn opmerkelijk voor dit gebied en deze worden afzonderlijk besproken. De faunistische overeenkomst tussen het onderzochte gebied en de Rhoonse Grienden en de Biesbosch wordt besproken. Mede op basis hiervan kan worden aangegeven welke soorten nog in de Kop van het Land kunnen worden verwacht. Inleiding In 1987 zijn we gestart met een waarnemingsreeks van macro- nachtvlinders (Heterocera, Macrolepidoptera) in de buitendijkse grienden bij de Kop van het Land te Dordrecht. Het is een dyna- misch gebied dat bij hoge waterstanden, vooral in de winter en het voorjaar, gedurende enkele weken gedeeltelijk onderloopt. Aangezien er weinig bekend is van de macronachtvlinders van uiterwaarden is een nadere beschouwing zinvol. Van enkele gebieden in de omgeving zijn ook gegevens van macronachtvlinders beschikbaar. In de Rhoonse Grienden heb- ben Elfferich et al. (sine anno) in de jaren 1995, 1997, 1998 en 1999 de macronachtvlinders geïnventariseerd en in de database van de Werkgroep Vlinderfaunistiek van Stichting European Inverte- brate Survey-Nederland (EIS-Nederland) zijn gegevens over de macronachtvlinders van de Biesbosch voorhanden. Gebied Het onderzochte terrein ligt langs de westoever van de Nieuwe Merwede en is aan de westzijde door een dijk afgesloten van het landbouwgebied van polder de Biesbosch. -

Mike --------------- 1 Request for info: Cnephasia pumicana – new to British (and Hampshire) list For those who don’t get the Ent.Rec., the following is lifted directly from Entomologist’s Rec. J. Var. 122 (2010) (authored by JRL & DJLA), announcing a new species to the British list. “Moths of the genus Cnephasia Curtis are notoriously difficult to identify from their external morphology. It is often necessary to make a genitalia preparation to be sure of the identity. Whilst examining such preparations JRL observed a striking difference between two males of this complex. The paper by Chambon & Genestier (1980) illustrated and described these differences and suggested we had two species under the name of pasiuana . C. pumicana had been sunk into the synonymy of C. pasiuana by Razowski (1989), although Karsholt & Razowski (1996) mention that this synonymy was not accepted by Jaroś (1993). It was also included as a distinct species in Novak & Liška (1997), Szabóky et al. (2002) and in Aarvik (2004). It remains listed as a synonym of pasiuana in the popular work by Razowski (2002). -

Beukeboom Menno Schilthuizen KEY WORDS Herbivorous insects, introduced plants, inventory, phytophagous insects Entomologische Berichten 72 (6): 288-293 In The Netherlands, close to 10% of all plant species occurring in natural habitats are non-native: species that were introduced from e.g. North America or Asia. Insect communities on non-native plants tend to get little attention from many (amateur) entomologists in The Netherlands for two main reasons. First, it is assumed that non-native plant species are not commonly used by herbivorous insects as host plants. Second, many entomologists consider insects associated with non-native plants of minor interest. Here, we give an overview of a large number (99) of native herbivorous insect species collected from non-native plant, clearly showing that non-native plants are used often as host plants. Zusammenfassung Im Sommer 2012 fand ich auf einem Privatgrundstück in und am Strauchunterwuchs eines ausgebreiteten Juniperus communis in Nürnberg Reichelsdorf (Umbehauenstraße, Koordinaten: 49°22’10.58 N, 11°02’27.97 E, Höhe 328 m) sonderbare Veränderungen an zahlreichen Pflanzen des Seifenkrautes Saponaria officinalis L. Hierzu in knappen Worten ein Zitat aus SCHÜTZE 1931: p. 83: "Coleophora saponariella Heeger, Raupe bis Mai, Falter Juli bis August, an jungen Trie- ben, Minenfläche groß, weiß (Sorhagen). Röhrensack breit, fast gerade, vorn und hinten wenig verdünnt, dreiklappig, aschgrau, nach vorn zu gekörnelt, mit schwarzen Längs- streifen (Heinemann). Die überwinterten Raupen fressen im Frühjahr nochmals, geben aber nur selten in der Gefangenschaft den Falter (Rössler)". Es waren von einem Sackträger besetzte Pflanzen, mit reichem Minierblattfraß sowie ei- nigen am Blatt nagenden Raupen in ihren Säcken. In der irrigen Meinung, ob des guten Besatzes nichts Weltbewegendes oder Seltenes gefunden zu haben, wurden nur einige wenige Pflanzen mit nach Hause genommen und die Raupen weitergezüchtet.
