Dear Friend of our Troops,

It's October, which is the start of Operation: Care and Comfort’s holiday campaign! We have been really busy and I apologize for missing a couple of monthly newsletters. It means we are really busy working on our mission! Many folks have asked what our care package days are like. We filmed a video at our August packing. Check it out and please share the link with others! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T- wJk2RiQc&feature=share We would love to hear what you think about it!

OCC finished our fiscal year end September 30th. This year OCC highlights include:

 packed, mailed and distributed over 100,000 pounds of care packages and supplies to our troops this year  supported 250-300 homeless at the Monterey stand down  supported 300 wheelchair bound veterans at the Wheelchair Regatta  supported hundreds of troops, vets and their families (including families of the fallen and wounded warriors) through our "Adopt a Military Family" program through anonymous adoptions, "Operation Toy Drop" and "Backpacks for Little Trooper" drives, and more  distributed over 25,000 FREE sports and events tickets to troops, veterans and their families valued at $1.3 million.  supported military ships in SF during port calls, including the USS Nimitz, USS Decatur, and at Fleet Week, USS Makin Island, USS Preble, USS Spruance, USCGC Sherman  Hosted "Welcome Home" and holiday events for hundreds of troops and their families  Partnered with the SF Giants, SJ Giants, SJ Sharks and more on their military appreciation games

We could not have offered this level of service without your support. THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT OCC YEAR!

OCC EVENTS

September 1 – December 15, 2012 Combined Federal Campaign! This is OCC’s second year in the Combined Federal Campaign, where Federal employees (including the military) around the world may make a monetary contribution to OCC through payroll deductions or one time gifts. Contractors working at Federal agencies may also make a one time donation. Our CFC # is 77631. If you are a Federal employee and are looking at a charity to support, we hope you will consider OCC! Our overhead last year was only 1.5%!

Now through end of year, “Adopt a Military Family” Campaign - holiday season OCC's Adopt a Military Family campaign starts for the holiday season! With your support, we have been able to help many local military and families throughout this year. The holidays are a special time for us to make sure that military families who need a little support are taken care of. Civilian families, companies and organizations are welcome to join our stand by list of folks who are willing to anonymously help meet the needs of these military families as the needs arise. We offer a way to assist with no red tape, just help! If you would like to be added to the standby by list, please email [email protected].

October 31st, Trick or Treat for the Troops Our most popular donation drive, our annual Trick or Treat for the Troops campaign is here! How do you do this? You simply:

 take an extra bag out when you trick or treat, and ask folks to donate candy for the Troops  donate your extra, leftover candy to the Troops  purchase candy when it is on sale, for the Troops  ask your dentists to donate any candy that they "buy back" from patients, for the Troops  ask folks to bring a bag of candy for the Troops when they attend your Halloween party

All of that candy, including chocolate, will be shipped 11th and in January. We ask that you do not donate unwrapped, home made, and “body parts” candy and treats. Drop off or mail candy to:
